I just opened my new E-520 and already I have a question. Is it normal for the camera to make a little click-click-click noise when turning off? It's silent on start up, but it makes a little noise on shut down. Is this normal?

Yes, it's the IS resetting itself. If you turn off the IS, you won't have that noise when you turn off the camera.

It's result of the IS (Image Stabilization) parking itself, and if you disable the IS before shutting down, you won't hear the noise.

p.s. Try using the search feature in future before asking as this question has been asked a million and one times before. Also suggest you start reading your manual (again it's covered in there).

So do you feel better now, Mike, taking your unwarranted anger out on a stranger on a message board? I sure hope you had a wonderful Christmas, Mike.

He's right though. It is normal, it is covered in the camera manual, and it has been asked a million and one times before...

Olympus ought to include a red sheet of paper with a quick heads-up with every E-series camera that has IS because clearly few people read the manual front-to-back before they try their new toys.

That would cost virtually nothing and save a great deal of aggravation, support costs, and possible store returns if the seller is clueless about the products they sell (which also not unheard of).
