Honestly, Nikon;
-Payment funds drawn on a U.S. bank only?
-12 WEEKS for the subscription to begin?

No paypal button, NO sale, and no one wants to wait 12 weeks for anything today.

When I got a free subscription from Cameta to P.C. Photo magazine (for buying a camera) the first issue CAME with the camera three days after payment.

Did you even notice it's 4 issues a year?

Why would one need paypal to make a magazine purchase? You have no credit cards?

this must be a troll?

Well, I have to agree with the OP that selling a subscription by making people call a 1-800 number is quite antiquated. If I come at a site like that, I would think they are some outfit that doesn't have their act together.

And why don't they provide the option for someone outside the U.S. to subscribe? Don't they want to sell anymore? Haven't they figured out that we are living in a global market yet?

No, I don't think you are justified in calling the OP a troll. If you have to wait 12 weeks for delivery to start, they almost guarantee that you miss the next issue, and they didn't offer credit card purchases only; the way the add is phrases, it looks like checks only.

Does nobody else see the irony...

Nikon World Magazine

[U.S. and Canada subscriptions only]

When a company does things like that, it's hard to take anything else they say very seriously.

And, yes, Nikon is probably the most insular company I know; it shows up over and over again in their marketing.

Yep. I received an email from Nikon "as a valued customer" about this magazine. Only to find it is a "World" magazine for "Canada and US" only. Only problem is I live in Australia. Funnily enough Oz is part of the "World" the last time I looked through my Camera.

So I rang Nikon Australia. No they don't market it here.

I supose this is in line with so many "World Championships" held in the US which only have US participants ...:)

Not to say the criticism here about the mechanics of subscribing to Nikon World is wrong, but Nikon World Magazine should be read "Nikon World" magazine, not Nikon "World Magazine", as it's a magazine about the "world of Nikon". (I'm pretty sure it's a NikonUSA publication.)

Anyway, I had a free one year subscription that came via a card packed with my D1x at the time, but it seems that's no longer how it works. It wasn't all that interesting (the magazine, not the D1x!), and I'd only have another subscription if it was a freebie.

Just to take this thread off topic, and because I'm in a playful mood, I'll reply as a European.

Football, in the World minus North America, is a game where you use your 'foot', to kick a 'ball', hence 'Football'.

'American' Football should more accurately be called 'throw and run with the ball', and I use the word 'ball' in the wrong context of course, as my dictionary has this definition of a ball - "a solid or hollow sphere, especially one that is kicked, thrown, or hit in a game." And in that definition the word sphere is the important one. The 'ball' used in American Football is certainly not a sphere. ;-)

I like American Football btw, it just shouldn't be called Football imho. :-)

Does anyone else not see the grammatical structure that the word Nikon modifies the word World, the word World does not modify the word Magazine. It's "Nikon World" Magazine, not Nikon "World Magazine." It may be unfortunate that Nikon has chosen for whatever reason to market the magazine only in the US and Canada, but the title is certainly to my calm consideration not evidence of a misunderstanding of the scope of the world.

I stopped using credit cards online about five years ago. Judging by the growth of paypal, so have many people.

I will give you the "only US & Canada" problem. That's pretty stupid.

Funny, my credit card called me one time and asked if I was making Paypal transactions because it was "questionable" activity. Personally I'd rather cut out the middle man. My credit cards call me if theres any problems. Deal with reputable companies and keep your computer system clean and you won't have any issues.

Plus, reading through all the paypal horror stories (google it) leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.

My experience a year or two ago was similar. And when it arrived, I
found the magaziner to be pretty thin stuff. I didn't renew....
You're not missing much.

It is not just magazines...

Nikon Canada does not sell the Camera Control Pro v1 to v2 update. I tried to order it through NikonUSA... no dice, their website requires a US style zipcode 5+4 numeric only. So I have to buy the "full" product not an upgrade.

It's called "sales management"... you have to buy from your own country irrespective of artificial differences in prices.
