okay.. Im off to see the northern lights in a week or so & want to get a few 1/2 decent pics should they appear.

I've got:
canon 350D (1 battery)
std 18-55mm efs
sigma 10-20
50mm F1.8
70-300 DO is

I don't have a tripod & am guessing I'll need one.. so with a budget of less than say 90 quid.. what do you recommend?

Anything else I'll need? - Am wondering how long the battery will last in the cold, worth getting a second?

Any tips on shooting the lights? I'm a novice & if I'm honest, rarely use the manual modes on the camera.

Cheers!

Cool, thanks for the pointers.

I've also seen these:
Manfrotto MN190XPROB Tripod & Manfrotto MN056 3D Junior Camera Head

Total:£102.41 (inc. p&p)

Which seems a good buy, at the moment I'm not sure if I should just buy the cheapest to do the job or get something 1/2 decent in the hopes I'll use it a reasonable amount.

this is my tripod and its really nice and the legs come out super quick. I was at B&H (worlds biggest photo store in Nyc) and the tripod was demonstrated and i bought it right then and there.

its going for 59 pounds... actually the same price i paid in nyc.

Hey, don't tell me you are going to Tromso, because there is a great chance I might be there as well these Xmas days!
