But you already got me with the very first one (very cool with the bright orange background). Great work as always. Definitelly not elementary class!

These are great photos Tony.

Out of the moth pics at the front, the first and last are the best as the others have weird focal points (or too much of the moth is out of focus, etc.).

With these shots where the subject is super-sharp and the background in bokeh-ed to a blanket mist, it can sometimed give the impressions of cut/paste composited job. Almost as if they've been over-PP-ed.

This is especially evident in the second pic (of the moth), where the disjoint between the subject (in focus) stuff and the background is so marked. (I hope you understand what I'm getting at here).

Personally, i like the wasp macro the best as the entire subject is in focus and the colours are great too.

Nevertheless, cracking stuff.

thanks for the comments. Appreciated.

Actually they are butterflies, not moth.

They are very very tiny bugs which the diameter is not more than 2cm
and thus, the DOF is very very narrow when shooting in very close distance
and in not a flat plane. This might be reason why I could not get the whole
bugs in focus fm heads to tails. They were moving very fast and very unstable
(almost restless) so I must use faster shutter speed and hence larger apertures.

I did not do any cut/paste or composite thing. The pictures were slightly
cropped/resized/sharpened and adjusted exposure if not correct. That's all.

I know what you meant but the fact is that it was not cut and pasted.

Yeap thanks. You know the wasp is so big which even only the tail part is
much bigger than one mini butterfly.
Nevertheless, cracking stuff.
THANKS so much for the compliment!

There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself,
for what we see is what we are.

Oh boy... you just keep stepping up to the next level. These are wonderful shots. The Nikon really has started to work for you...

Have you posted your thoughts on the camera anywhere? I would love to get your take on it. I am struggling with the possibility of a platform switch and the d90 is on the list.

Have you used the video mode on any of your macro, or shallow dof shots? Any links to any video you have shot?

THANKS !!

no I haven't since I did not have any experience with DSLR's which I had
used intensively before. I do not have that mind to make a comparison and
say, it (D90) is good or not good. All I can say is, it is better than my
former prosumers in term of speed and normal operations. The focusing rate
and speed help me to take the action shots more successful than before.
This is the most significient improvement to me after I changed to use DSLR
instead of prosumers.

However I still have a lot to learn and to get used to such as
  • the shallow DOF of the large sensor.
  • no IS if normal lense is used.
  • LV is not as convenient and useful as the prosumer's. Review of pictures
under sunlight is a pain ;p(

I like it very much now but until I have another brand/model to compare,
I cannot say I love it or not.

At least for now, I can say I still love s100fs.
Have you used the video mode on any of your macro, or shallow dof

Sorry, as I said LV of d90 is no good so I didn't even bother to press the
LV button...:p(

BTW, go ahead to buy something...at least to help the World's economy
a bit ;p)))
