My first movie with EOS 5D Mark II

Very impressive indeed! I was already itching for my 5d MkII and now I'm practically squirming for it ;p

Kind Regards

I really enjoyed your movie.
Keep up the good work!
I got my 5D Mark II thursday. Friday I went out to record some movie
clips. You are welcome to watch it, but please be aware that I am a
total movie beginner. Please don't expect The Vincent Laforet Style.
My little movie is just raw clips from the camera published in
reduced resolution with no enhancement. I love that camera!!!
Regards!

I use a 3 years old iMac and iMovie 08. Need a faster machine. I am considering the newest iMac with 4 GB of ram, but maybe new products are coming in the beginning of 2009.

Thanks - I used Apple iMovie 08. It's a simple but great tool. I am wondering why my movie are missing a frame here and there. Maybe it's because 5D II uses 24 fps and here in Europe the standard is 25?

I would love to share some raw footage but as far as I know there no way to do this with MobileMe???

Thanks for all your kindly replys. The music is from that new Spyro Gyra cd, "A Night Before Christmas".

I used Auto ISO - love that feature for stills by the way. Live View movie mode (1920 x 1080p), Auto WB and a mix of AF On and manual focus. In fact I just turned on the camera and shot some clips. Very simple - very nice.

Hi Big Ern,

Noce shots but to me I can clearly see flickering lights right into the opening scene and uneven movements in the "spinning wheel".

Aren't that the kind of problems we face just because the camera is only 30 FPS in this part of the world where all power is 50 Hz which is not possible to divide with each other and get an integer?

I was also very keen on this camera but I only see it as an intermediate model version and will probably standby until an updated model comes out, let it be an 1DsIV or 5DIII or maybe Nikon.

Many will (or should) ask for 25 FPS and much more manual operation in my honest opinion.

The lack of these are holding at least me back from a purchase.

Some of the flickr you see is intended - they try to create a sparkling (is that the word?) effect. It is probably not what you are refering to.

The annoying flickr on the second lamp from the left I can't explain. It could be a 50 Hz beat, but I doubt it: Why is it so localized. I can't imagine they run some of the lights on DC and one AC.
It could be illlumination with 50Hz light from outside the FOV of course.

I agree with the jerkiness on the "Spinning wheel" top is pretty annoying, but I think it is a combination of shutterspeed and motion (the static center post is OK), not a problem with 50Hz lightning (alone, at least)

Yes, the iMac is due for an update-- I'd watch for something in January (possibly at the Macworld event). If nothing else, usually when they update to a new model, the old one becomes less expensive for a period of time (before it's no longer available).

I'm kinda waiting for quad core processors to make it into iMacs.

I thought the 5d was 30fps? Is it different in Europe by some chance?

If it's not from converting to 25fps, what memory card did you use? (IE how fast of a memory card did you use? UDMA / 45 MB/s? 30MB/s?

Sorry... it's 30 fps in camera but the moviestandard in Europe is 25. I used SanDisk Extreme IV 8,0 GB.

Very nice. Good choice of music too.

Looking forward to trying mine at work!

Socrates died.
Therefore, Socrates was a cat.

The very beginning has some very nice rounded specular highlights !

The colors are very nice. You could try shooting videos with a lower contrast setting...

Aren't all 5DII 30 FPS in video mode made for US and Japan who are using 60 Hz power supply and who film with either 24 or take video with 30 Hz??

Here we do video with 25 FPS (25p or 50i).

It is very difficult to convert a 30 FPS video to 30 FPS. It usually means we have to remove one of six frames causing an uneven movement in moving subject if we want to cut it together with other 25 FPS material.

More than half of the world (using PAL TV) would prefer Canon to produce a 25 FPS model too.

It is actually strange they don't. Maybe they have firewalls between their photo and video departments because their video are made in two different models for the different markets. For instance their XL-H1(s) HD video is sold in two models. Canon also sells a conversion to get both frame rates in one recorder.

I spoke to Canon Professional Service and they are struggling with the same problem as you. They said they had no clue why Canon didn't provide 25 FPS to us here.
