Hi,

Intending to get the D300 year end but noticed that there has been quite a number of 'sudden' deaths. Is this problem more common for the older firmware or would it be the same with the update?

Thanks

Yes, Same

Dear,

I am using D300 for 11 months without ANY problem so far.

I am puzzled by some of the messages I see on this forum. More than 4,000 pictures taken WITHOUT exposure, ISO, AF, Freeze, batteries or other glitches/issues.

I am very happy with this great gear !

For B&W still prefers film with Nikon FM3a + Zeiss fixed lenses,

I got my first D300 around November of 2007. After a week or so I noticed sudden freezing. I cleaned contacts, tried various lenses, with and without the SB600, but it was an intermittent and very frustrating problem. I called Nikon support who recommended I return the camera.

The shop took exchanged the camera with no problems. Have not seen the same issue at all on the second body in a year (about 12,000 exposures).

No, it is not prone to sudden death. Like every piece of electronic equipment, there are some failures. Given the amount that have been sold, very few. Mine is nine months old with no problems, not even DBS.

Respond to rudeness with civility, it really annoys them.

It doesn't really seem like a puzzle to me: There are some units that are simply defective. A certain failure rate is found in all products, from shuttle crafts to bricks.

I think the Nikon quality is very good, but nobody is perfect. There is always the issue of end-user error, and I don't think that forums like this will give a reliable view of quality control (or success) for products.

I will say this: Nikon support was very helpful the few times I delt with them.
