I've got several large (10X12) muslin backgrounds. However, they've become badly wrinkled which show up. As yet, I have not tried to iron or steam it.

What is the preferred method to take wrinkles out of a muslin back drop? Iron? Steam? Other?

Thanks.

we always stuff muslins into a stuff sack...as randomly as possible. folding causes creases or bad wrinkles.

Shoot with a shallow DOF, and adiquate distance between subject and backdrop, and any wrinkles will blur into oblivion.

Try a hand held steamer to go over the more offensive wrinkles when the muslin is already hung.

A decent steamer will work fine. It's just a pain to do it every time.

I hang mine and then steam.

Sometimes you may not have the space to get enough separation or your lighting may not allow the shallow depth of field required to blur out the wrinkles.

I bet a steamer is faster and better, but a simple spray bottle of water works rather well. Dont make a "wet spot", but the spray helps a lot.

Just take them to South Dakota and chain them to a fence. Just returned from shooting there where we had 60mph winds for two days. There won't be a wrinkle left in them.

I carry several "super clamps" with me and use them to pull each corner tight and clamp it to my background stand at the bottom making a taught background. It does nothing for a backdrop carried onto the floor but works great for shots not using floor area. The wrinkles are not totally gone this way but are far less intrusive.

Throw muslin into dryer with a damp towel (for humidity) on low for 15 minutes.
Comes out wrinkle free.

Dry cleaners that offer drape services might be able to help.

Basically that what you have, a big curtain.
