Some Tamron 18-270mm samples

the 18-270 in a VC version. There isn't a non-VC version in a 18-270. That said, I didn't know this lens was out in Canon mount yet (in the USA), at least not without being ripped off on eBay.
or is it the normal superzoom without IS?

Thank you so much for your samples. Now I have a question, I know Tamron introduced a new unique VC when it does vertical, horizontal, and circular vc; some say you can zoom all the way to 270 and have a pretty sharp image in the viewfinder, is it true?

For me it is between this and Canon 18-200 VC, but this is at least $100 less. Please provide more samples, at 18, at 270 and portrait if possible

Thank you for sharing the samples and I'm quite impressed. I've been waiting for this lens and just checked Amazon.com it still says "This item has not yet been released". Where did you get yours??

Would you please comment on the AF speed of this lens. Some said it is quite low, taking around 1's in bright light and 2's to 3's in dim light. I am quite concerned with focus speed. Thanks.
Yea I live here in Kyoto Japan and I picked up this lens last week.
Its a great lens. Its just as good as the old 18-250, but now it has
VC and it works really well too.

To answer a couple of questions: focus speed is fine - certainly the equal of any other consumer lens I have used. It did hunt a little in one or two low light photos I took. Microsoft had a program going on where they would rebate 30% (up to $200) on "buy it now" purchases on ebay. I see it is down to 20% now. Go to live.com and enter Canon lens and then click on the ebay link.

With 30% off it turns out to be about the same price in B&H, but you got a head start playing and enjoying the lens, not bad.

But it is the Japanese version they are selling in eBay, you won't have the US warranty. Maybe I'll wait... Does anyone know when Tamron will release this lens in U.S.?

I have no problem with the focus speed at all. Before I got the lens people were saying its so slow. I don't know what is wrong with them or their lens but my 18-270 is fast. No problem in bright shots at all.

I have not used it in a really dark situation yet, but in dim light it is also good. You push the button it focuses and bingo you shoot. It just works. No problems here.

Hope this helps.

I did a quick test against my Canon 70-200mm f/4 IS at 200mm at f/5.6 and 8 and discovered the following: center focus is very similar and you really can't tell them apart. The foreground focus extending into the corners is much sharper on the Canon but the background extending into the corners is sharper on the Tamron. CA is much better controlled on the Canon.

Side-by-side shots of this lens and new Canon 18-200 would help a lot of people to decide which lens to purchase here

Live a honourable life, and in the future, when you look back you can be proud twice.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. Speaking of the devil, do let us know whenever you get your hand on this lens. I'm looking forward to see your Sigma 18-200 OS vs this lens. What is your opinion on the canon 18-200?
or is it the normal superzoom without IS?

Looks like you got a decent copy of this lens. I just sent my second copy of the Nikon mount version back because it is very soft and even out of focus at all focal ranges. the first copy was the worst, including the focus ring requiring great strength to turn. Not at all smooth, either. These were Tamron USA lenses, not the import version. The second one I sent to Tamron service in NY for calibration. If that doesn't work, I will also return it to Amazon. When I spoke to the technician, he was quite interested in what was being posted on dpreview about the lens. On the Nikon Lens forum, it has been all bad so far. Hope they can get it right, as this would be a great focal range to have for hiking, etc. Just wanted to see what kind of success you Canon guys were having with it. Hope it works out for you.
