I was at the middle east and the lighting there is always dreadful. I brought the 50mm f/1.4 just in case... well, I was blown away. it worked so well. I'm a JPEG shooter so I put on the picture type D2Xmode1 with -2 saturation, auto-ISO, awb and I was truly amazed. it looked better than it did live. I did the -2 to saturation cause the house lights were tricking the AWB into being wicked yellow.

What do they sound like? Typical black metal? Most of it sounds the same, a lot of energy, but not much creativity going on. The only recent good stuff I heard was a band called Veil, now that was good. Now this Waitan, they also look like Immortal, it's really a bit overdone these days..

But what the hell do I know, I've been listening to Slipknot all day, I must be going soft.. :)
 
they have some immortal parts, some emperor parts.

the last time I saw them, they came out and dumped rancid pig's blood on the crowd. this band is more "real deal" and they stink of rotting flesh.

I'm not turned in on that scene so I find out the day of.

I also found out that the wedding present was coming, but it's a monday show (the only day of the week I can't shoot a show). lame.

I've seen them before (with rotten flesh on stage) but decided not to shoot them, since it was not clear to me what ideolgy is behind them. This was just personal reason. They can do whatever they want - art is free - and I believe in the freedom of speech. For me these guys are sickos.

Great shots nevertheless. And the mobile phone shot rules. That mass phenomenon of holding mobile phones up in the air to take lousy photos just ruins any rock show these days. Hey, where are these fists in the air? We need more revolution, circle pits and walls of death.

Thanks for the hint with the D2X mode and -2 saturation. Will look into it.
Keep up the good work and post more often, I enjoy your work.

Pig blood is not good for the dials on the D3, weather resistant, but not smell repeallant. :)

If its a paying gig, that part of the risk involfve, but for artistic pupose, very costly if you get in the way.

Nice pics. no noise, just dirt on the subjects....
And we tought that Kiss was over the top...

The low light capabilities of D3 are already known to the world. 50/1.4 is one of the best lenses around.

These pictures have no technical values of photography. I dont know what else to say.

I fully understand that, but I will personally shoot a band if I like them. In the 9 years I've been shooting shows, this is the 2nd time this really has happened.
plus watain's CD sworn to the dark was one of my favs last year.

but if that's not enough, 99.999% of the people I hate in this world are white.
this is something that a friend shot there.

when I took those shots, I figured I was pushing every boundary of photography ever invented. Right before i shot these, ansel adam appeared in a cloud over the show and talked to me about my destiny and how I had to shoot this show for the whole future of photography was in danger and only I could save it!
