I like what I see about the LX3 but the lack of support for a cable release kinda bums me out. It forces me to look at the G10 but I think the image quality of the LX3 is quite nice.

Thanks for your comments on the G10 and LX3. I don't agree with your 4th comment though.

I certainly agree that the G10's longer telephoto would be nice. What I don't understand is your remark about the lX3 that the zoom is "usless and slow". It is a little slow zooming, but I like that as it is easier to compose the shot i want. As to useless, 60mm is slightly longer than a normal lens and the 24mm to 60mm range is much more useful than a fixed lens of 24mm or 28mm would be. I also don't understand your remark about all your pictures with the LX3 being wide angle or distorted zoomed in faces. I think a 60mm lens is quite suitable for head and shoulder portraits. All portraits need not be full face. Henri Cartier-Bresson used 50mm for most all his portraits. Here is a link to portfolios of his portraits.

I just started playing with my G10 and I do like the handling of it.

Im not very good at comparing 2 cameras so im just going to point out
handling and features. Ill add more as i go through it.

1) I got the colors right lx3 now thanks to Tom and Raist3d

2) 24mm at 2.0 makes a difference, I often shoot 1/15 with lumix
whereas i am forced to use 1/8 with the G10. I feel that I am always
getting sharp photos with 24mm 2.0 due to faster shutter (and wider
lens adds to steadiness)

3) again, 24mm is awesome. I feel like I can take self photos with a
group of people with me and still get the scenery behind.

5) on full manual mode, the LX3 lets you balance flash exposure while
the G10 only lets you choose flash intensity in 3 increments! (min,
mid, max).

• I use the flash exposure adjustment on M mode a whole lot when

covering weddings. Too bad I cant use my 220ex, 550ex, 580ex, 580ex
II on LX3. You can imagine why im more biased towards canon coz i
really dont wanna buy another external flash for it.

6) LX3 feels cramped. Be careful not to accidentally push the
joystick coz it wont take a photo if you do. G10

According to the manual - and I have to test this - the camera works in shooting priority mode, meaning that pressing the shutter button will exit any menus and get ready to take the picture.

7) on full M mode, the g10 is faster when changing a shutter from
1/20 to 1/200 but I dont like how it toggles when changing aperture.
You have to press it 2x to toggle from Aperture, shutter and metering
adjustment.

• the LX3 is still convenient but it is very slow when changing from

1/20 to 1/200.

8) the LX3's lens cap is annoying! it dangles and i try to grapple it
with my pinky finger but still very annoying. I only took the Lx3 1x
out for a good walk and i already have 3 specks/smudges on the lens.
The lens is very exposed unlike the flushed G10 lens (not to mention
it closes).

I bought the lens attachment tube to protect it with a filter on it for more protection, especially from dust. Still looking for a suitable case to store it like that.

I think none of the P&S cameras with protruding lenses have any dust seals in them, so when the lens is zooming in or out it sucks in dust, that will eventually wind up on the sensor.

9) I like being able to shoot at 4mp JPG+full rez RAW on LX3.

I dont know which I am keeping yet but I am leaning towards LX3. I
still need to test the dynamic range which is actually more important
to me than sharpness or noise.

You will keep the LX3, no doubt about it.

Depends where you are in the LX3's menu. If you're 2 levels down, pressing the shutter button will not exit the menu.

"Eventually" can be a very long time. ;-) None of my digicams with extending lenses has dust on the sensor, and my oldest is about 7 yrs old (and was used for photographing on 4x4 trails and in welding shops where grinder "dust" is common). My only cameras that had dust on the sensors were my DSLRs. I know it can happen with P&S digicams but the odds are very low, imo.
