Sweet Home Chicago

We did this for an out-of-state production company just before Schwimmer came to town so we didn't see it. Was it okay?

They used to have illuminated 'stations' that were old and faded facing each cardinal direction.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I love the word "free" in your response. That sounds great to my ears.

I responded to Shawn’s post explaining our trip up there. Not much time to get around but will try to do a couple things.

I love your gallery of Chicago. You are a talented photographer. Thanks for sharing. Thanks also for your reply.

The multimedia tour guide was very helpful. Easy to use and informative.
You will have to see how many of your shots made the final usage.

I will have to try the Sears tower next time to see the view from there.
Once the Trump Tower is built, I guess it will be the highest.
But there is the new spire down by the river that is supposed to be 2000' high.

There is just a great bunch of interesting buildings to see all over the city.
A wonderful place to have a camera. I need to get a wide angle lens for
my next trip.

Regards,

Rick

One of my all-time favorite Chinese restaurants is the Won Kow in Chinatown. GREAT food!.... and worth the climb up to the second floor.

Great town for photography, great town for fantastic food, great town for blues bars,,, I have gone to Chicago many times when I was working. Harry Carrie's Holy Cow, The Navy Pier , and the McCormick center are must do places.

Where were you for the real high shot of the lake front (e.g., hotel,
helicopter, etc.)?
--
Roger,
We were up in the observatory floor of the John Hancock building.
I think it was 94 stories up in the air.
Great view of the city. Next time I'm going to see what it looks like from
the Sears tower.

We walked by Harry Carry's place, but didn't stop in.
Looked like a fun place to eat.

So many places to visit, so little time to do it.
I'll just have to go back and see some more.

Wow. It looks like my weekend is about a month or two short of what I
need. I should get there more. It's only about a three-hour drive
from where I live. Looks like I need to do that. Sounds like some
real interesting stuff. I doubt if I'll get to do much. We are going
there for a wedding and so that will probably be my entire Saturday.
That basically leaves me Friday night and Sunday morning. This will
also be the first time in three years that my wife and I will have a
night without the kids. Needless to say, running from one place to
the next isn't high on either of our lists. We'll probably just go
one or two places and enjoy each other and the quiet (we have 5 boys,
not much quiet at home).
Rich,

I'm not sure what you like to do, so I thought I would give you some options and you could pick and choose what sounds the best to you. I'm very guilty of over scheduling my vacations, so do find some time to enjoy some time with your wife. We've been going pretty regularly and stilll haven't seen everything we would like to.

I found out about football the hard way. We decided leave the car at the hotel and take a cab to the Museum Campus. That was ok in the morning, but in the afternoon when we wanted to leave, vehicles were not allowed in. As a result we had to hoof it a mile or two to get to a place where we could catch a cab.

Be aware that both the Cubs and White Sox are in the playoffs as well. That could muck things up a bit too.

If you are looking for a place to stay, the Palmer House is a grand old hotel. I have a friend that loves the Swiisshotel. Both are failry conviently located - and expensive.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks Shawn for the tips. People like you are one of the reasons I enjoy this place. I not only improve my skills and knowledge in photography but it adds to my life as well. Thank you so much.

I just wish there were some thunderstorms so I could try some lightning shots.
Maybe hitting the Sears tower or something. :-)

Actually glad we had clear skies and great weather.
I'll leave the lightning to you. :-)
