Hi,

A couple of days ago I made the switch from Pentax and my DA* lenses to Nikon and picked up a 24-70mm f/2.8 to get me started

Lightroom 1.4 refuses to open my NEF files. Full Stop

I have downloaded ACR 4.5 so bridge sees the files and I can open them in CS3 but its a PITA as my workflow is stopped dead in its tracks not having lightroom

I don't want to upgrade to 2.0 just yet as my budget is blown.

Anyone no if there is a solution to this?

Thanks in advance

I just purchased a D700 but I upgraded to LR 2.0 last week. But try this for a temp fix. Convert to DNG as you import. You should be able to "work" your shots and keep taking pictures. Hope this works for you, I know I would be totally lost without LR.

this is from an old post of mine but the trick also applies to Lightroom 1.4x

change the EXIF Model on the D700 files and your old version of NX will work happily.
use exiftool which can handle single or whole folders of RAW files

exiftool -Model="NIKON D3" -o output_directory input_directory/ nef.

See my past post on what the syntax means

There's GUI frontends if you're not comfortable using the command line

Download the latest version of Adobe's DNG converter and convert your NEFs to DNG. Then import the DNGs.

You could use CS3 to convert them but I think that the DNG converter is the option that will interfere least with your workflow.

Depending on what you use to copy your photos from your cards you could probably call the DNG converter at that stage.

You should NOT have to upgrade an entire software program because you bought a newer camera period. Lightroom should have the D700 made avail. in the 1.4 version. Shame on adobe! Even the biggest criminals of all , microsoft, lets you install their software on older equipment. Just another way where greed takes prioriety over fairness. Shame on adobe!

Just like no 14 bit camera support for CS2. They support older softwares. I remember them giving ACR updates for PSE3 for about 2 years after they stopped selling it.

LR2 upgrade is only $100, right? And you get new features and improvements.

But ended up just upgrading. Still working out this camera and flash

Very heavy combination. Could imagine playing tourist this camera is going to get very heavy very quickly as a walk around combination

Yes. Google d700hack and run the exe on your nef files to label them from D700 to D3. This way the software will think the files were shot with the D3 and you should be able to use Lightroom on them.
