I'd like to hear as to what you think. I went to Amazon and placed an order for 7 CF cards from Cameta Camera. Shipping was $ 6.75 or $ 6.95 then I noticed on their second page of Cameta it said orders between $100- 200 shipping to be $ 9.50 so I placed my order. When I checked confermation E Mail I found the shipping to be $ 48.86 I ship packages every week with UPS and know 7 CF cards will only cost $6.00. The weight will hardly be 1/4 pound for 7 cards. I called Cametta only to be on hold for 25 minutes two times. What would you do? Do you feel its fair price.
Thanks for your input.

Call Cameta first to give them a chance to take care of the mistake instead of posting here, obviously the shipping calculator made an error and Cameta camera will take care of it with no problem. They have a good reputaion as far as I know.

If the lines as busy try at a better time of day. making complaints is not going to accomplish anything if it was a legit mistake.

I'd try them again...email maybe? I've ordered quite a bit from them, and never had a problem getting an issue resolved.

They never called me back inspite of leaving 3 messages, when I called the store # they told me thats the way Amazon has set up to charge shipping for each item. But when I told them you are playing games and that I will post about this on every Photographers Forum and give them a bad rating. I was told we'll connect you to our customers service rep. She told me its a glitch in their system and she can only cancell the order or wait till it gets shipped out and only then she will issue me credit for overcharging of shipping. I'll stick with B & H they have been OK for the last 18 years with my orders. What have I learned from all this. Cant trust any one check and recheck for we all are being ripped left and right. Our late former President Mr Regan was right in saying " Trust but verify"

DO NOT BUY from any other store than B&H I have been on your side of the story more than once, too many scams out there.

You have to watch buying such items on Amazon. This is not uncommon, and neither Amazon nor the vendor will do anything about it. If, by chance they do, they are merely suspending the charge. They snag you with the cheap price and stick it to you on shipping, Fortunately, I checked the shipping price before I bought, but many did not.

An email to Amazon produced a form letter response. Talking to Amazon customer service is pointless.

The vendor I compl;ained about was Ace Digital Photo. Sending an email got no response. Giving them a bad rating did, but given that I was not taken in by it, they really didn't have much to say. ANd with Ace, it's not just SD cards, but also for Zeiss lens cleaner (which I use for my glasses). A 3oz bottle cost just over $5. Shipping was over $6 for EACH bottle. I found it at optic planet for $3.50 a bottle and free shipping. It seems to be a racket of sorts. ANd from some of the angry user reviews, they've made a tidy little sum from it.

I will say this, I will not do business with them again. And now I'll add Cameta to that list. I refuse to do business with a company that is so willing to decive and rip off their customers.

Amazon supports such practices. I still do business with them to a certain degree, but they have lost most of my business (also due to their customer service issues), Too bad for them, but I bought my first DSLR and lens from them. Subsequently B&H and Canoga Camera have gotten my business. Amazon lost close to 4 grand just since the new year.

Let them know how you feel with your wallet.

I've no experience with Cameta, so this is not specifically against them, but overcharging for shipping has been a common problem with many mail order/internet storefronts in my experience. I won't mention names of the firms I've dealt with - many have disappeared by now anyway and I don't need a frivolous lawsuit.

The old bait and switch is alive and well, too; it goes in many variations like "the camera for THAT price is actually made in Malaysia with 10 fewer steps of quality control than the one that will cost you more - don't you really want the other one?" (In that particular case, the camera model was one that was specific to the US-released product only, so it was an outright lie - a camera made for any other market and in any other country would have had a different model designation - this from the camera manufacturer I complained to because the store called themselves "authorized" by the manufacturer.) How much you wanna bet they NEVER would have sold me that camera at the advertised lowest price?

If a price advertised is too good to be true (yes, even "check-rated" companies that advertise in the back of Pop Photo I've discovered from personal experience) it's not.

My advice is to stick with the companies you can trust. B&H, of course, is one. You'll still get a way better price than buying from brick and mortar, if that's what you're after.

Verizon charging double for services and when I complained they shut my phone line down 3 times. I'll keep it short January I ordered DSL and phone service from Verizon and only the phone service worked but no DSL and they started charging double the amount and each time I complained and refuse to pay they shut my phone down. I was told there there is a glitch in the system same as Cameta Camera. Guess what I am with Comcast Triple play, Phone , Broadband and even Cable for $ 72 a month for business. Check your bills and dont let them make a fool of us!!!!!!!

I've had the exact same problem ordering from Adorama via Amazon. Ordering two CF cards at the same time triggered double the normal shipping fee. It was a hassle to get the money refunded, required multiple e-mails, and all for 6 or 7 dollars -- but the alternative is letting them get away with it, which I'm not about to do.

I don't think either Adorama or Amazon are trying to scam anybody, it's just an unfortunate quirk in the marketplace-seller setup. You'd think they'd fix it, as I'm sure it annoys and antagonizes lots of otherwise happy customers, and with good reason.

I believe it has to do with some how that Amazon deals/figures shipping with third party vendors. My daughter collects comic books and just ordered several through Amazon from the same dealer. The dealer apologized for the multiple shipping charges (configured through Amazon) when he sent the comics and gave my daughter a discount on future buys through him directly.

Blame Amazon's marketplace. They make money on shipping/handling.

Been trying since April to cancel an unneeded line only to get a new number assigned to it, Call complain and get credit, fine. They finally said they had it figured out and promptly disconnected my line I wanted to keep!! But in the mean time the line I wanted and was told was disconnected still worked. What idiots!

Regardless of who the company or service provider is, the 'billing
error', 'system glitch', whatever, is never to my advantage.
Expect the glitch to be in your favor the day after a mugger hands
you his wallet and watch, instead of taking yours.
LOL, that'll be right after the IRS tells you they've decided to refund all of the taxes you've paid for the last ten years because they like you :)
