Hi,

I am looking for a non DSLR camera for taking sports photo and portraits/sceneries when travelling.

Kindly advise which camera is more suitable for me. Thank you.

If you are serious about sports photography, you pretty much have to use an SLR. View cameras, 126 and 110 cartridge cameras, Kodak disc cameras and twin lens reflex cameras are not very suitable for sports. LOL.

Welcome in these mostly friendly forums, indeed, you should have posted it in the beginners forum or so. But it is not a reason to ***** one off like some anastimatic people do.

So many people think that they become a professional photographer by buying a reflex camera, and if you see the junk they produce... wow...

Of course, the real pro's will buy very expensive fast lenses and very fast cameras. Spend 5000 dollars or a bit more, and you are there. Now, hobyist have a choice: they can get a lousy canon 350 D or so, and feel pro.

I would suggest you to go for the fastest bridge camera if bulk is no problem:

the fuji finepix S100f is monstrously fast, and will give you sports images that those people that snobbed you off here, can simply not make with their entry level reflex camera.

It might be one of the nicest toys that are available at this moment. And, fuji cameras in general have a solid reputation. Sony and canon and panasonic make fine bridge cameras (panasonic FZ18), or if you want smaller: panasonic TZ5

Good luck.

if you're looking for dlsr-like features, then i would second the other poster's recommendation of looking at the fuji s100fs. if you're looking for a compact camera, then the s100fs won't fit your needs.

Your requirements sound pretty general, and based on the style of question, you're really not sure what you want. What kind of price range are you looking at?

There are lots of models that are very good, and you should try them out at the store.

If you want something very compact, take a look at:
1. Canon SD1100 (excellent camera for the price)
2. Fuji F100fd or F50fd

3. Canon SD870 IS (Good all-rounder. This comes with a wide angle lens - very important for indoor
pictures of parties and restaurant photos)
4. Canon A570IS (wonderful budget camera)
5. Panasonic LX2

If you're willing to sacrifice portability for zoom range:
1. Panasonic DMC-TZ5 (very compact "super zoom")
2. Fuji S100fs

3. Canon Powershot S5 (I especially like this one - the flexible LCD is fantastic)
4. Canon SX100 IS (budget super zoom)

If you want a very sophisticated camera with support for external flashes (important for indoor photography and portraits). These are significantly more expensive, though:
1. Canon Powershot G9

2. Panasonic LX3 (brand new, has a wonderful lens for low light and wide-angle photography. Not so good for wildlife.)
