Ninety miles west of London and twenty miles north of Stonehenge stands Avebury, the largest known stone ring in the world. Older than the more famous Stonehenge, and for many visitors far more spectacular, the multiple rings of Avebury are cloaked with mysteries which archaeologists have only begun to unravel.

Captured in at least 5 different days (and time)....using my aging Pentax DS2 and Tamron 18-250mm.

Comments and criticisms are welcomed...

Just sweet shots. Nice skies and rays, brushstroke colors, great subject matter. Avebury is one of the most interesting places I've ever been to. I would have loved to have been right there with you using the DA 12-24.

No. 2, 3, and the last one are my favorites. Seven would have ranked if there were not those people in the background. You must have used a polarizer on most of those. Good work.

I really like the contrasting colors, you did well. As for the rocks, no mystery to me, it just shows that people were as nuts a long time ago as they are now.

It will be a crime if you don't have 16"x20" enlargements matted and tastefully framed - and displayed on a wall in your living room!

Stunning photographs!

Beautiful work!

Keep 'em coming!

Hi David,

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean HDR shots (multiple shots) combined together to produce HDR? If that's what you mean, then my answer is no. I haven't tried HDR yet and I still have to learn how to do it. All the images were done in single shot in RAW and no polarizer or filter had been used. I hope I answered you question.

Cheers!

most of the those images were captured without using the polarizer. I've learned my lesson with polarizer, it could also ruin your shot if you are not too careful in using it. I've ruin one batch of my images (the same location) because of polarizer. It degrades the sharpness and makes the color more saturated which I prefer it done in post processing. But there are also some benefit like reducing glare and over exposure.

I agree, a much wider lens should have been used. Unfortunately, I don't have wider lens at the moment.

Thanks for viewing.

Cheers!

Hi Bob,

I'm not sure if a 6mp output from DS2 is enough for 16"x20" enlargement as I haven't tried it before. I've read somewhere that 6mp is only good up to 11"x16". Have you tried it before? I don't have a big printer so I have no idea if it will still hold a good resolution when printed to 16"x20". I'd be glad if you can share your experience in printing a 16"x20" size from a 6mp camera.

Thanks for viewing.

Cheers!

OH!!!! Did you pick a great day or what? Never got out there when I was in London, and had typical crappy Scottish weather when I hit some of the rings in Grampain and the Orkneys and didn't want to douse my AE-1 Program. I just love the colours, the **** seed fields and the blue sky just work well together. Fabulous!!

Cheers,

Excellent set! You've somehow managed to capture the essence of the place! I lived and worked in Wiltshire (not far from Avebury) some years ago and you've brought back some great memories. Thanks!
