Hey gang, i hope you can help me....

I have a E-510 since january and have never encountered this problem before.

During todays phot outing i deceided to try out manual mode and was getting ok pictures. Slowed down the sutter speed and then took the first shot, but after the second shot, the camera locked up and was (it seemed like) writting to the card for about 1 min (light blinking) and then would just shut off. Tried it at least 6 or 7 times and still did the same thing. Tried other settings A, S, Auto and alas always the same problem. Changed battery and Card and did a setting reset with no success.

I just hope some of you can help me.

(will be resseting the camera tonight. )

Just did a hard reset and still did not help anything, every second shot will lock up the camera and then shuts off.

Tha only other thing different that i did was to put it on a tripod when it started acting up

Anyone

Driving me nuts too.

The only thing that was different was I was using older batteries and a lot of LV. The battery indicator wasn't on but I think as soon as I took a shot the draw was too much for the battery and it would fail under the stress. I should have checked the battery with a expanded scale voltmeter right then.

I never waited for the E 3 to shut down, instead I shut it off cursing the image lost. As soon as I turned it back on it seemed fine untill I tryed another shot.
I put a freshly charged battery in and all was well again.

It all started long ago and far away with a lowly OM-G

Thanks Jim

Tried a second fully charged batterry but still did not work.

I am recharging one right now and will see afterwards. Is there a way to fully discharge a BLM-1 battery? so i can racharge it again!

The most likely cause is dirty battery contacts inside the camera.

I had it happen once with the E-500, I dont know what the "gunk" on the contacts was, or how ity got there, but it caused the same problem.

After a discussion with the boys at the Oly tech support and they informed me that they heard of this issue. After they discussed this issue the came to the conclusion that it may be due to the IS on while i had the camera on a tripod for a timed (long) exposure. Now that was the lamest excuse i have ever heard. My shutter speed was at 1/10th of a second. Anyways, they told me to send it in for repair, thank god for warranty.

Thanks to those who have replied. I have tried the camera with a freshly charged battery, with one lens and no memory cards and it still turns off after the second shot.

ah well, i guess i am going on vacation next week without my cam.......i just do not want to go back to my previous digital camera. I guess once you go SLR you never go back

I you have any other sugestions, please feel free to send them my way. I will only be sending the cam tomorrow.

Just sent it off to tech support, hope they find the issue. I did a volmeter test on my batteries and they seem to hodl the voltage correctly.

Thank for those how replied and tried to help out

Hey Guy's

I got my E-510 back and it still has the same issue, it shuts down after 2 shots.

The repair center said that they changed the circuit board, updated the software and did a calibration.

Now could the issue be on my side. There was no mention that they encountered the same problem or not. They are saying to send it back for repair, that is ridiculous.

I have gone to Henry's and tried out one of their demo's battery and still had the same problem.

Do you think i should request that a new body be sent to me under warranty? Would they do that?

Is there any other troubleshooting i could try before sending it back?

Thanks in advance

Marcel

I can't imagine what you could be doing that would cause it. Are you shooting in extreme temp's. like 50 below or 135 deg's. above.

What about the lens. Have you tried a different lens? If they used their lens then that would be something that is different.

You are crossing your fingers before every shot aren't you?

If it's still not working right then you might try to get the camera store person to act as a witness and verify that what you are saying is correct and push for a new camera since their first extensive effort did not work.

If you think that makes sense, then you must have read someone else's post!
