Hi Everyone,

I was planning to take my nikon D300 + 105vr macro + R1C1 to a tropical butterfly house in uk. Will humidity do any damage to the equipment and will flash be safe. I did read high humidity can be a bit dangerous.

Any advice much appreciated.

Regards

Chris

I've used mine in a tropical butterfly greenhouse. I had no problems whatsoever.

Put your camera/lens in a plastic bag and alllow it to acclimate to the temperature. That way moisture will condense on the bag, not on the camera. Once the temperatures are equalized, you can remove the camera from the bag and start shooting.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your very quick reply - I was a bit worried about the flash, I read in a photo magazine article it could be dangerous in humid conditions. Were you also using R1C1, or the onboard flash.

Thanks again

Chris

Mostly, you need to watch out for the butterflies. The R1C1 is delicate, and some of those tropical butterflies are violent s

Can you use this on any lens? Does it screw in where a filter normally would?

For some reason, flash pictures seem to be extra sharp (not necessarily macros, just in general). Also, with how close you need to get to the subject even with 105 or 150mm at 1:1, I think I would love to try the R1C1. Currently I have a Sigma 105 macro and I'm thinking about changing to the 150 for greater working distance. Will the R1C1 work on either lens or just the Sigma 150?

Thanks in advance, and there are some outstanding pictures from the links in this thread.

Yes it mounts to the filter threads. There's a set of adapters for different filter sizes. Another piece clips on to the adapter, and the flashes clip on to that piece. I don't know off hand what filter sizes it'll work with.
