I have heard a couple people talk about get the E100 under $400. One was at Fry's Electronics (but I don't know where).

Sure would appreciate some help - a store and phone.

TIA - Peter

See my reply in the other thread.

My take is that the C-2100UZ at $499 is also a good deal. And it is available at CompUSA as a standard price.

Fry's usual price for the E-100RS is $599 -- and my decision was to buy it only if I could find the $399 deal, which I did, in time.

Whether the special features of the 100RS will outweigh the 20% or so higher resolution of the 2100 is something I have yet to determine. but I am very happy with both cameras.

The E100rs has a progressive scan CCD with gives you full vertical resolution compared to the standard CCD with only gives you half vertical resolution. So the sharpness you see on the E100rs is more then perception. On CNET they state that the E100rs picture quality is equal to a 3 mp camera. I don't know if I would go that far. I have both the E100rs and the C700uz and I find that they both produce excellent quality photos for the level of cameras they are. I would also include the C2100 into the mix. I have an example of both the E100rs and the C700uz taken at about the same moment of my family. The first was taken by my wife using the C700 and the second was taken by me using the E100. I believe the picture quality of the C2100 would be close to the same as the C700.

I think the second shot looks better. A little crisper.

Great image from the c700. The second one (from the E-100rs) although not taken up quite as close as the first one was (from the C700) clearly depicts the importance of getting the subject (s) to fill the frame as much as possible so the fewer available pixels can be better allocated and dispersed on the subject matter. Even at the relatively little difference in reach between the two images , the low pixel count of the RS becomes quite obvious.

Those photos were both resized to a much lower resolution. The difference is not as obvious in the original captures. But I too, give the edge to the C700, but just a slight edge. Most of the other people I showed both original captures to, liked the E100 capture better. I think it is because of the perception of the sharpness because maybe of the higher vertical resolution and the image stabilization, I'm not sure. But in reality the C700 is the higher resolution camera and I do agree with you.
