Since few days ago I own a FZ50 and see that there are several forum members in same condition. I like to share with them my new experiences and thank very much to those already experienced FZ50 owners that unload their knowledge in the forum.

I am firing my first (JPG) shots with this cam. The results exceed my expectations. I wanted to see first how the cam behaves in low lighting indoors. To my amateur eyes and needs it looks great. The pictures below are all hand held, straight from camera, without PP, except #2 and #3 that were leveled off. We can also see what the cam produce at ISO 400 and ISO 800. By applying minor basic PP these photos improve a lot .
  1. 1. ISO 200, 1/15 sec, EV 0

  1. 2. ISO 400, 1/15 sec, EV +0,33

  1. 3. ISO 400, 1/8, EV +0,33

  1. 4. ISO 800, 1/6 sec, EV +0,33

  1. 5, ISO 800, 1/6 sec, EV +0,33

I would appreciate your comments and advise. Best regards,
Eduardo

Great photos at ISO 400 and 800, slow shutter speeds and handheld yet! You must have rock solid hands!

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks very much Skyglider, OIS works very effectively. In the other hand, to prevent jitter I apply what I learnt for rifle shooting, try to have a support for your back or arm / shoulder, have your arms relaxed and closed to your body, breath deep and slowly, once in the halfway stop, at the moment of "firing", hold your breath and press gently the shutter: its action must take us by surprise. After some practice it works. Best regards,
Eduardo

Eduardo, those turned out better than I would have expected. Nice work! That's a beautiful place. I like all the accent lighting.

I, too, have found that the FZ50 exceeded my expectations indoors. I was actually able to take some great shots of my child's class up at the alter during a children's mass while standing at the back of the church. This is something I was not able to do with my DSLR (Olympus E-500 -- admittedly not known for low light shooting), but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the FZ50 did simply because of the image stabilization (which neither my DSLR nor my lenses had).

Another DPReview Panasonic Talk forum member, Gregm61, posted some great indoor shots of the Louvre using a FZ50 and the LW55 wide angle adapter. It made a huge impression on me that this can be a pretty good indoor camera. No, it's not the best indoor, low light camera, but again it did do better than my DSLR simply because of the OIS.

I hope you continue to enjoy your FZ50 and thanks for sharing the pictures. You confirming my original decision to buy the FZ50!

I use a screen magnifier most often to view tiny type, but I sure enjoyed using it to see the fine art details in your wonderful photos. Please tell me where you shot these scenes. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your posts.

If you have the same "shooting" skills as with a shotgun you should get some great shots of birds in flight.

when we/you did our/your homework on a cam, expect the worst & get completely surprised when the worst we expected isn't bad at all.... Love when that happens... I've been pleasantly surprised similarly with my FZ50 and a few hand-held night shots @ 200 & 400 iso.

I've yet to venture into higher Iso ranges but am thoroughly enthused at what I might be able to expect, when that Iso 800 time comes, after seeing your shots... I too have no problem with any of the shots you posted... Makes me want to go to church...

Welcome to the FZ50 club! Especially after waiting & researching it for quite a while & almost missing out on it... They're disappearing @ all the usual places...
Get a load of this:

And all 4 sellers of the black one are charging @ least $100 more than I paid & with only the GunMetal Grey still available below $500, with both of those still higher than what I paid just a few months ago...

Great technique and it does work effectively judging from your slow shutter speed, hand held photos. I'll have to practice that in low light situations.

Thanks,
Skyglider

They are very good for hand held shots but accept the inevitable lack of sharpness. I think you can do even better by using the many objects in a church to place the camera on so that you don't have to worry about the shutter speed.

Thanks very much Sandy, I do not know yet if FZ50 produces better image quality than FZ8. But in the way of learning the handling of FZ50 I am having fun.

Thanks very much Chris, for sharing your experience with FZ50 and your good wishes. I visited the post of Gregm61 and found those pics from the Louvre impressing.

  1. 1. belongs to the commercial gallery placed in the ground floor of a building of beginning the 19's,reciently restored, in Buenos Aires. The rest belong to the Cathedral in this Town.

The following is the only BIF I have had:

Good opportunity for a monopod?
Good observation Panacealater, since many years ago I have a very nice Variant monopod. I used it seldom and remember that I did not feel comfortable with it nor experienced an steadier control of the camera. You may me think in making new trials. Thanks very much and kind regards.

Good stuff Eduardo, it's interesting to see your ISO tests. I haven't used the 800 setting yet so it's good to see how it performs.

I'm glad you like the FZ, I use mine as much as I do the L1, I find the FZ a treat to work with and carry around.

Best regards
Mike
