Poll. Who bought A700 at Best Buy?

I bought mine on Tuesday while on vacation and thought I'd found a real deal. When I got home last night I was surprised to read that they had been reduced even more but...bright and early this morning I drove 60 miles to Buford, Ga. and they price matched it for me at $839. Now I can get my vertical grip practically free.

I was inside four different BB stores today. I started at the local store in St. Louis (thanks to all in this forum for the coupon and sku info!!!), then located one in Fairview Heights, IL, then on to Wentzville, MO, and finally hit pay dirt in Columbia, MO. The Fairview Heights manager would not budge below $1000. It was marked at clearance for $1119, and even though we could see the same item for cheaper at other stores, he stated they did not have to "price match" clearance items and he would not have a problem moving the last one for his price. He also stated the BB cost was $1169, so he was losing money on it already. Not sure I believe that one. By the way, during all this discussion I was able to study the computer screen showing each store's inventory along with price of the A700. Interesting fact was the only two stores showing it for the $839.99 discount price had the inventory for 11 weeks. The Fairview store showed "0" weeks. It looks like the stores that had trouble moving the cameras were allowed (or the computer algorithm forced) the discount.

At the Columbia store they were waiting for me as I had called ahead and reserved it at the customer service counter. They quickly approved me for a BB credit line with 6 months free financing, and they accepted the coupon without issue. Suffice to say I'm very satisfied today. The battery is charging as I type this (just got home 20 minutes ago), and I have the manual in my lap.

Thanks again to all in this forum for spreading the good word quickly. Without you guys, I would probably be waiting another 6 months for my upgrade!

Walter

BTW: There is still one NIB A700 body priced at $873.99 at the Jefferson City, MO BB.

Paid $1157 before tax two weeks ago in Scottsdale, AZ. Got $200 plus tax credited back to my card when same store dropped the price to $957 last week. I've looked for the $839 price around here with no luck, even the store I purchased at has the price now listed at $1157 again.

Love the camera, particularly now that I got the vertical grip and 24-70 ZA (partially because of plans on getting an A900 later in the year).

Now, I'm finally a legitimate "Sony SLR Talk Forum" member. I have
been waiting for the A900 and still plan to purchase one when they
become available.
Count me with William...although with the capability of the A700, I REALLY won't want a FF until they get a low-res, low-light version.

Buying a MF camera and scanning to 30mp+ makes me realize how meaningless a high-MP camera would be for me right now. I want the D3 capability, but will enjoy a summer of DRO and fast shutters and fast AF that the A700 gives me over the 7D.

My wife still doesn't recognize the difference. ;-) LOL!

Wow MonsterStyle,
from Washington state to Georgia in only 2 posts, wish I had your ride :)

I went to the Clackamas, OR store this morning to get mine and saved about 1/2 of the sales tax (tank of gas) by buying out of state.

Silly me went and left my xbox hddvd gift card at home so I'll have to use that $50 on some memory cards.

My total was $971, and that includes the 4 year accidental warranty, and with the 10% coupon applied to the camera, as well as tax.

This was purchased in Manhattan, NY.

BEST BuY WILL ONLY REPLACE IT FOR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THIS ONE!!!

So if U damage it, 4 years from now expect a cheap crappy DSLR for
around the $800 range.
You mean a cheap crappy DSLR like the Sony A700 that I just purchased? {eyes rolling} Like an $839 replacement in 3 or 4 years isn't worth it, especially if it's my fault..............

Try as you might, you won't make me feel bad about the excellent deal on the excellent camera that I just received.

oh dude, no way would I make U feel bad, heck, I bought 2 of'em!!!

I figure if I can sell my 7D and write the two A700's off on taxes, I pretty much stole these from Best Buy, LOL.

Same to you... She asked if I wanted it, but I couldn't afford the extra money on both of them.

O'well.

Just to make a point , how many here have bought an A700 at Jessops ( UKs mostwidespread retailer) at £990 minus £100 cashback = £899 ( 1783$) ?

This is the face that Sony present on UK high streets (Sony centres don't seem to stock the A700 anyway.)

Just picked up an A700 at Best Buy in Hyannis, MA (2 left). They took the 10 % coupon and I got the 4 year service plan. Camera 755.99, 139.99 service plan, 37.80 tax. $933.78 total.

I have been out of Photography for years, and was not going to buy one now becauseI am having minor surgery thai will have me on crutches for a while and felt whatever camera I got would be cheaper in a couple of months.

I have been watching all the forums. and had narrowed it down to Sony or Nikon. When I saw you talking about the BB deal I decided if they had one in Hyannis at that price and would take the coupon then I was meant to have a Sony. I was leaning that way because of the Flagship and CZ lenses.

After I am over the operation I will post again to tell you what lens I got or getting. At least I will have time to read the manual. I am sure I will still be able to come up with a stupid question or ten for you.

Thank again all for letting me know about the deal.

I bought mine at BB for 1,049.98. It was the demo as they had no new ones left. I have abosolutely no regrets. Di

I used the 10% coupon, paid 6% sales tax
and still got it for $801.35 at the Brighton, Michigan BB.

Thanks to William C's info on the Howell BB post yesterday.

I was going to wait this out, but glad I jumped in.

I now have a Sony to hang my Sony 18-250 lens on.
My KM5D will be doing backup duty.

I bought one in Covington, La. last night. It was the closest store with A700s in stock. I paid $756 after the coupon and let them rip me off for a CF card. $909 out the door after the $80 CF card and tax. Oh yeah a six hour drive and a tank of gas. C. W.

Wondering just how many A700s Best Buy sold to those of us here in
the forums, specifically in the last few days since they discontinued
carrying the camera.

List your city/state/country and how much the FINAL cost was on your
A700, inluding tax, and if more than one, how many you bought.

I got TWO in Mesquite, Texas, USA for $818.36 each

I could barely afford one. Besides, if I bought two I'd be on an upcoming Dr Phil show with the Wife!
