Difference between old vs. new batery NP-BG1 vs. NP-FG1

Hi,

Sony website says the NP-FG1 is the successor to NP-BG1. What is the difference?

Both are 3.6V, 3.4Wh, 960mAh capacity batteries.

I think the FG1 is an InfoLithium and the BG1 is not.

Apparantly its compatible with W and H series. My H3 doesn't display time left in minutes, just a number of bars on a battery meter (like a mobile phone). Surely using this battery will have no benefit to me unless there is a firmware upgrade?

Newer cameras are going back to using inf0-lithium that tells you how many minutes you have left on the batter as opposed to four stinking bars that don't mean anything when you get to the last bar. I never understood why Sony took it away other than maybe lawsuits or something.
