To All,

Below is my first night shot taken with my K100D-S and beloved SMC-A 50mm F2 lens. I am quite new to photography and would love to hear some advice for improvements if you have the time to share.

Your Thoughts and favorite night shots?

Hey Matt!

Nice shot! I love the colors!
The shot might get even stronger if you crop the empty top off. Make it a pano.

Here's one of mine. Taken with the DS a couple of years ago in Gothenburg Sweden while on vacation there.

Very nice pictures. I really like your Chicago picture, city skylines have a sort of sweet spot for me! As for the technical details of my picture, it was shot as ISO 200 @ F8.0 with a 6 sec exposure. Shake Reduction was on and I stabilized it with my hand on top of the balcony railing. I believe the starburst effect you are seeing is light "seepage" around the aperture blades. I suspect from counting that there are 6 blades in the A50 2.0 (I'll check on this later and get back with you.) I have seen similar effects from my fathers telescope from the "spider" that holds the secondary mirror (4 legs = 4 arms of "starburst"). My physics background is a little weak in the optics department, anyone else have an explanation?

Very nice dave,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Judging from the star-trails, 15 minute exposure?

I will definitely keep that in mind, lovely photos you have in the PPG. My goal is to get a single photo in the gallery before I lose interest in photography! What lens did you use for that shot? It sure looks like it was shot with a prime!

Dont know how you all do it. I have tried and tried and my night shots stink.
I have a tripod, remote control, filters etc....still suck.

How you got such a nice shot on the FIRST TIME is amazing. Good job.

Would be great if you all posted the details on those photos...especially shutter speed.

Hey Matt,
I live in Galveston. I have been at that spot many times.

Have you tried the "Bulb" setting "B" on the top dial.
Use a tripod a remote release and hold the shutter open as long as needed.
Just experiment....
You will get the hang of it.
