I did my research and decided that the A650 was the best replacement for the A610 I lost recently.

Went to buy it and found that Canon has discontinued the model. After about 15 calls I managed to track a retailer down with 2 left.

Strangely, Canon also stopped production when I had done my research and decided on the A610.

So, if you want one buy it soon.

After writing this I saw another thread discussing possible discontinuation in USA.

Did you see the thread about the light leak? I think you need to check that the 5th number in the serial number is 1, not 0.

Happy Hunting.

Holy #$#@ !

I better buy mine ASAP !

They better not stop making "this kind of camera" as this kind of camera is "the only kind" acceptable for self-taken fish shots (IMPO).

I emailed canon and asked about this camera being discontinued and this was the response I got:

This camera is current and there currently is no replacement model for this camera. At this point, we have no information to disclose about any upcoming models to be released.

Strange that it would be discontinued in Australia??

I guess it was a matter of this model being too much of a hassle. Too many returns, and that general feeling of some of the cameras are faulty. Even if the issue is fixed now, the damage is already done.

The fish photo comment is interesting. One of the many nice things about A650IS is you can set the self timer to take multiple shots.

I like this camera a lot. I am now quite pleased somebody nicked my A610!!

And I think you were right. The light leak problem killed the reputation.
