I, like many, have been deceived by Amazon and am looking for alternatives. My wife is going to Japan next week and I was wondering if anyone knows about the current availability of the DP-1 there, and also Japanese pricing. Also, if bought there, would the instructions in English be included.

No guarantee that they still have some. It's possible that Sigma have delivered more in general, in which case it would be easier to find. Worth checking the shop anyway since they had good pricing - the DP1 itself was 90,000 yen.

The DP1 I bought from there was in English language when I turned it on, but came with Japanese manual. For English manual, download from here now:

a few times on various trips to Japan.

Prices are almost always a bit higher and most certainly will be with the weak dollar. They do not discount or bargain. My guess is stock will be dependent on popularity.

Also, I have always been told at the time of purchase, the warranties are valid in Japan only but have never had to find out.

Depending on manufacturer, some manuals come with various translations, others are Japanese only. But that should not be an issue since you can download the manual available on Sigma's site:

Yodobashi Camera is always a good source.
