40D are you satisfied so far ????

VERY satisfied !!!

Had a D80 then 30D and the 40D blows them both away.

No focus issues , everything sharp etc.

Bought a Sigma 18-200 OC and it's the best aftermarket lens I've ever owned.

simply because I don't have it yet. Hopefully within a couple or three weeks though. I can hardly wait. Looking at the wonderful photos others are posting is a real joy and makes me anxious to get started. I haven't had a dslr since the d70 and I got rid of that about three years ago. Sure glad I kept my tripod, monopod, backpack, etc. Though I can't give anything but this (trying to be funny) comment, I don't believe I've read or heard of one unhappy camper.

Purchased as a back-up/carry-around to my 1D series bodies and works great.

I am very pleased with the 40D so far. I got mine when they first started shipping and have used it quite a bit. A few of my photos from the camera can be viewed here:

I replaced my 20D, 30D and XTi with a pair of 40D’s and find the 40D to be a significant improvement over all three of my previous cameras for the type of photography that I am doing. Pretty much every aspect of the camera’s operation feels faster to me and the image quality is at least as good if not slightly better than the cameras my 40D’s replaced.

Both you and Daniella are driving me towards more spending.

He, he.... thanks for your feedback.

I am now convinced I should get the 40D.

Funny you should ask... I was getting off of work today and the sun was setting,

I pulled out my 40D(I take it everywhere) snaped a couple pictures off by the stream and said " God I love this camera"...... True Story

I had to think about it for a second. I forgot I owned the 30D. Once you get the 40D you stop using the other. Get one learn to use it. You will like it very much. It is a safe purchase. I say that because I am a photography nut. If you don't plan to take pictures every week it will still be a good camera just neglected.

Could not be happier! esp since I got the 24-70 f2.8, Wow, does this combo take some nice sharp portraits, etc.

I was off to a rocky start with the 40D, some QC issues, but in the end, everything works great, and this has to be the most fun I have had with a camera in years!

That made me even more interested. I have to shoot animals in movement and for that reason i have been thinking about AF. Now the D300 has a very advanced af module off course but the 40D might be good enough for my needs.

Have you had any issues with birds in flight and other wildlife ? Do you have enough keepers on the focus side ?

Best wishes

Jakob

My previous lens of choice was the EF 500mm f/4.5L USM but the AF has stopped working on it and I have yet to find a place that has been able to repair it. For this reason I have started using my EF 500mm f/4L IS USM most of the time. Sometimes I will use the EF 400mm f/5.6L USM but the 500 sees the most action by far.

I only shoot jpg.

I have found AF tracking to be excellent on the 40D. As far as the advanced AF module on the D300, yes it seems great. I had a chance to use a D300 with a 200-400 VR this past weekend to shoot various flying birds and it performed quite well. The big shock for me though was that AF didn’t feel as fast on the D300 and my keeper rate wasn’t any different with the Nikon rig than it was with my 40D and EF 500mm f/4L IS USM. I had expected more from the Nikon considering that it has (at least as I understand it) the same AF system as the D3 which is supposed to be the most advanced ever. I have to say I was disappointed to see Nikon’s top of the line AF system not being able to significantly beat the AF system in the 40D in my hands. The conditions I was shooting in were fairly challenging in that there was a lot of mess in the background to fool the AF system and some of the shots were in fairly limited lighting conditions. In the end I was able to produce plenty of keepers from both rigs and feel confident that I can get satisfying results from either system. I don’t think you will go wrong with either system for this type of photography.
