If u like Black and White photography, and have ever seen infrared pics, then you'll want a Hoya R72 Infrared filter. Here's an example of one of mine;

Andy,

This is a great photo, have you any tips for this kind of photography?

Or do you just slap on the filter and away you go?

Is it best to switch the camera to B&W?

Sorry to hijack this thread with these unrelated questions!...

Thanks

Luke

One of the Minolta external flashes (3600 & 5600 or something like that)?

It's a great picture and an amazing goat, who stayed still for you for 1/2 sec. Better than my kid.

  • Any UV filter to protect the lens all the time - a must , IMHO.
  • A circular polarizer (you may want to get low profile filters, because of possible vignetting at 28 mm - but I own a D5, so this suggestion isn't based on my personal experience).
  • Perhaps a backup CF card (128 MB?)
  • A PC with CD-R burner :)
Happy hunting!

Close up filter(s or set of three) if you like macros
Olympus B300 x1.7 teleconvertor if you like long telephoto shots.
Remote control release cable, Minolta or home made (for longer exposure shots.)

Tips for infrared are as follows:

Use a tripod as the amount of light is massively reduced - the goat shed pic was 1/2 second exposure. A cable release is also recommended, I made mine as described else where in the forum.

shoot in B&W mode as sometimes if I shot in colour I find that a strange type of vignette happens in the blue channel see the following for exagerated example

good luck!
