I will be purchasing a digital camera in the next few months. It will be my first digital, but I have a minolta SLR now. I was considering these two models: Minolta DiMAGE 7i or Fujifilm Finepix S602Z

I have heard many good things about these cameras. I know they are not available yet, but I can wait a few months. The necessary features are:

AA NiMH batteries
3+ MP
200 MM+ focal length for telephoto
CF type II slot
Fast shutter speed
many aperture settings

Which one should I get?
In general is Minolta or Fujifilm quality better?
Do you have a different suggestion?

What do you mean by quality? That is a fairly vague term. Picture quality? Build Quality? Desing Quality? Lens Quality? etc.

It seems that past history suggests that the Fujis are easier to use straight from the box. In the hands of an experienced user, I think you'd be hard pressed to tell one photo from another.

I mean build quality mainly. I know both companies make excellent lenses.

Hi Daniel,

Both digital models, Minolta DiMage 7i and the FujiFilm FinePix S602Z are great digital cameras. The FujiFilm S602Z beats the Minolta DiMage 7i on price. I would consider the FujiFilm S602Z.

I'm also leaning toward the Fuji . It beats the Minolta on price only. The Minolta definitely offers so much more but I'm too cheap to pay the $1099.00 it will be going for. Isn't it terrible how money can influence a decision? John

Just curious, what makes the D7i a better camera except for price than the Fuji S602.

What is the projected price of the FujiFilm S602Z?
well the 1099.00 on the D7i is MSRP and no one, well maybe fools, pay list price. Second they are both good cameras in the projected reviews. But i would wait and then read the reviews of them when they are released. Then no matter what is said go to a store has both and have some hands on with them. Take a cf card with you and some charged batteries and take some shots then go home and look at them. Then you will make a better judgement.
