Error r06

[SMBooth]

Just had a quick play with a friend D40x, when I put my 300f4 on it would not focus, and came up with r06 error. this was bright day outside and trying to focus on something 10M away. Any ideas what it may be, have searched the http://www but have not came up with a suitable answer.

I thought r06 was an indication of shots remaining on the card.

You do know this lens will not AF with the D40x, were you trying in manual focus ??

Pretty sure the card was empty, manual focus worked OK.

r06 is the number of shots that the buffer can hold at that point and time.

Is it the 300 AF-S that you have?

If it's the current 300mm f4 AFS it should focus. As others have pointed out r06 is not an error but the remaining buffer capacity,

In the spirit of Occam’s Razor one should embrace the less complicated formulation or simply put, less is more.

Its true, it is buffer.

For you to make sure, change the picture quality or type. Change the type from RAW to JPEG. And while in JPEG, change it to L, M and S. At every type, half press the shutter and you will see the number increase between RAW and JPEG-S. That r number goes up from 6 to about 15.

One possibility is that the camera was operating in "focus priority", and didn't release the shutter because it felt that there was no subject in focus.

Yes back from the dead. Now a Nikon owner as the OlyE1 was stolen last April/May so picked up a D200. Haven't really got back into here that much, more using a Aust forum. Nice to see your well, the close ups your doing are very impressive.
