Hi. I have been a happy owner of the Canon S60. I got it because of the great reviews it got when it came out, and because of the manual features. I have yet to learn any of the manual features and figure it's time to go ultra compact since that fits my abilities ever. After researching here and other sites, since I don't want to pay the $ for the Canon SD700 IS on ebay, I've come to like the Casio EX-V8 based on the feature set. I went to Best Buy yesterday hoping I could see how small it was, but they didn't have it. They did have some other Exilims, like the SX880 or something like that, that was really small. When I checked out the Canon 870 IS, I thought it was still a bit too large since I take my camera everywhere with me. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on whether the Casio EX-V8 will take as good pictures as my Canon S60. It is 4 years later and all, but I don't know how much the technology has changed since then. Thanks!

The Canon 870 and the Casio EX-V8 are about the same size according to Amazon.

I'm not familiar with your older Canon but the Casio takes great pictures...and video.

Canon S100 -> Pentax Optio S4i & Canon SD450 -> Casio EX-V8 :)

Im guessing the video would be far better...Stills would be similar, if not a bit softer than the Canons.

I have both. I use the V8 and my wife uses the S60. The canon is probably a better camera, but the V8 is much smaller, quicker, has a long tele. and much better movies. The S60 does have wide angle and a viewfinder. I find it a bit too big thou.

You perked my interest, so I took my S60 and V8 for a walk. The V8 has a much better screen, and it perhaps slightly easier to use. I am slowly thinking about getting into RAW,and so shot the Canon that way. The images from the V8 were alright, but the S60 raw shots of course blew them away. I wanted to also compare the raw and jpeg files, but the 256 card soon filled up (I forgot to check it before leaving!).

Still the V8 output is acceptible, and the size of the camera and its 'unobtrusiveness' can come it handy. I took the shot below with the V8 outside a cafe, and the owners came out before I even had a chance to get the S60 out!

If you look on this site you can find a review of both the S60 and the V7. If you pull up the comparison pictures, I think you'll find that the S60 produces better shots at both high and low ISO.

The V8 will probably perform closely to the V7. The V8 is a very nice "swiss army knife" type of camera. It does a little bit of everything well, if not great.

It makes a great snap-shot camera as a second camera.
