dpp users..are you using the lens aberration correction tab?

Quite simply, it has now occurred on all three of my computers. I have tried different data cards, and older as well as newer images (it didn't occur with the earlier images until a couple of weeks ago, but now if I use folders containing only the older images, DPP still crashes if any of the files are not CR2).

In some threads, I have seen that others have this problem, and all they can say is try to limit the number of files in the folder. In other words, this problem is pervasive and Canon knows about it. I must assume that they are working on it as we type.

Ah right. thanks for clearing that up.

i must say that i have a few folders with 300+ jpgs and have no issues. Thats why im not totally convinced its just down to Canon but i agree, DPP should be able to handle jpgs without crashing.

You said "Have a look in the help file, there is a list there."

My help file for DPP 3.2.0.4 does not have any listing for "lens" or "aberration" or anything like it. Could you please guide us to the settings in the help file where we can find the list of supported lenses?

Thank you

I just had DPP 3.2.0.4 open up a Windows XP folder containing 4,758 files. Nine of them are 5D CR2s and 4,748 of them are 1D2N small JPG 5s that I had the pleasure to shoot at one event. Because of the small file size the folder is but 2.5GB large.

As one would expect DPP was a little slow to read that many files but I can work with them just fine.

Did you type lens in to the search box? mine comes up with a few result including "editing RAW images with RAW image adjustment features" From that link you get a page all about RAW editing. scroll down until you get to the "Correcting Lens aberration" section.

this what it says......

Correcting Lens Aberration

You can easily make corrections to drops in peripheral illumination, distortions in the subject, and color blur which occur by the physical characteristics of the lens or slightly remaining aberration.

Please note that with Digital Photo Professional ver. 3.2, you can only correct RAW images which you have taken with the compatible cameras and lenses listed below. JPEG or TIFF images cannot be corrected.

1 Lens aberration correction functions cannot be used for the image taken with the combination of the lenses*1 and EOS 5D camera, since it is incompatible.

2 Lens aberration correction functions cannot be used for the image taken with the combination of the lenses*2 and EOS 5D camera whose firmware version is 1.0.5 or older, since it is incompatible.

3 Lens aberration correction functions cannot be used for the image taken with the combination of the lenses*3 and EOS 30D camera, since it is incompatible.

4 Lens aberration correction functions cannot be used for the image taken with the combination of the lenses*4 and EOS 30D camera whose firmware version is 1.0.4 or older, since it is incompatible.

More:

You can also correct RAW images taken with the compatible lens even when the extender is attached.

For the images taken with a combination of camera and a lens not in the above lists, aberration correction function cannot be used. Since it is unavailable, the aberration correction function is not shown.

Sorry for the way the list came out. I just did a cut and past from the help file. You will notice there are two lens's per line.

I, too, could open up such multiple files with DPP, until the problem arose, and I have never been able to get past it. I simply have to put the CR2 files in a folder that has no other kind of files in it. Otherwise, I get the typical message " xxx .. has encountered a problem and needs to close ... "

Hi!

I have recently upgraded my DPP to 3.6.1. I'd like to use the feature of lens aberration correction. But it is inactive.

Can anyone advise me why it is so?

I shoot with 30d coupled with Ef-S 18-55 IS lens.

Thanks!

According to the list in Dave's post earlier that particular combo is not supported ( 3).
BigGis

Really limits my use of LR 2.3 for RAW development. Mostly jpgs now.

I think you should download the latest version which is 3.6.1.

I think it works better than any of the previous version. Be sure to read through the documentation in the pdf file.
