Pentax 14mm or Sigma 10-20mm?

Er... seriously, just go to Google and type:
site:dpreview.com Sigma 10-20mm

But if you really want an URL, here's one:

http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=Cso&q=site%3Adpreview.com+sigma+10-20mm&btnG=Search&meta=

I don't know if that will work outside of Canada or not.

Jeremy:

Good idea but I'm a slow learner.

Could you give me an exact URL for (as an example) a search for Sigma
10-20mm.
Then I can take it form there for other entries.

Thanks.

Hi Al,

Me too - I've even gotten comments from JensR about how I'm
over-the-top (he's quite conservative in that regard). But I may be
mellowing out...
To each his own. I PP to my liking, not to the crowds. Do the same and you'll be happy.
This is really useful information - but I'm surprised where you put
the 77. Which 24 do you have?
My 77 bounces between really good & okay on the contrast, color scale. I think it has to do with aperture setting but I haven't any time figuring it out since it's of little importance to me. The 24 is the Sigma 24mm 1.8.
A good way to look at it. Especially if you are more a photographer
than lens collector!
I try to be more a photographer. Although I'm starting to collect some too.
Ack! What have I done? I'm going to ruin your enjoyment of this
awesome lens. Please forget everything I've written!!!
Hardly. Until something else comes around with a 10-11mm focal length I'll be happy with the Sigma 10-20.

Just a note in support of 12-24/4, which I had for more than an year now. Other than chromatic aberrations at 12-16 that add one more step to my workflow this is an absolutely remarkable lens, both in sharpness - I didn't expect this level of resolution for a 12mm focal length, and contrast - the optical design and SMC coatings make do for excellent flare control. Even bokeh is surprisingly good.

Well Mark, my vote would be the DA14, but I replied that in your previous thread too.

As said, it focuses closer, is one stop faster and produce stunning photos.

What more to ask from a lens.

Ohh and that one stop is soo important when nailing focus at night.

K10D - DA14 - 113.5s - f5.6 - ISO 100:

A question I'd ordinarily research via a search but of course that's
not possible right now.

I also know that prime vs. zoom is like apples vs. oranges in some ways.

But if the quality of the Sigma is very good then this would be a no
brainer.

Recommendations appreciated.

What exactly do you do to remove the CA? How effective is that? Some CA is difficult or impossible to remove (the kind I seem to always get), but I keep hearing how easy it is to get rid of from others.

The input has been great on this thread and I've appreciated both the info and the professional level of the responses.

I decided to delay a decision on the 12-24mm vs. the 14mm. I realized that for my street shooting what I'm missing most is a small medium telephoto that will help taking photos from across the street (often literally). So I'm going to get the little 70mm lens next.

Then I'll get back to selecting a wide angle one to take me a step wider than my favored 21mm.

I am not disregarding the comments of those of you who have and like the Sigma.

If I could be guaranteed getting one of the good ones I might well go that route. But there are as many dissatisfied users as the lucky happy ones who've posted here.

Thanks again.

This lens is so much better on my K10d. I'm regretting ever having doubted it. I think it's a combination of accurate autofocus and a better sensor that makes this lens shine on my K10d.

My previous comments about it were all based on experience with an istDS. I am also starting to learn more about how to photograph at such monstrously wide angles, and that flare plays a major role outdoors with this lens. It's truly best to have your back to the light source and leave as little sky in your shots as possible if you are not exposing for the sky. But I can accept that - the FOV is so massive, it would be very difficult to control flare in a design this wide. I think they did well.

I'm also starting to appreciate 10mm - it's difficult to control, but once mastered gives you options you otherwise never would have.
