Hello everybody,

Can someone explain me in a clear way what in practice is the difference between stabilazation mode 1 and stabilazation mode 2 on the FZ18 ? It's not clear to me the way it is explained in the FZ18 manual.
What IS mode is the best to use ?

Thank you for helping me.

Mark

Mode 1 is always active - it stabilizes the image as you look through the viewfinder

Mode 2 only kicks in when you fully press the shutter button - the image is stabilized.

Mode 1 is useful if you have trouble framing shots in the viewfinder due to camera shake, or if you need the viewfinder the stay steady for things like spot metering or spot focusing.

Mode 2 is said to be more effective, because the stabilization has more travel - in Mode 1 it may be shifted towards the side, leaving less room to move further - in Mode 2 it is in the center, and as such as more room to move.

Mark,

As I understand it, Mode 1 helps stabilize the frame setup, IE, during the half press onward. Mode 2 only stabilizes during the full press to produce a non-blurry image.

Mode 1 will eat batteries faster then Mode 2 as it operates longer.

You can see the effect if you press "Demo". In the demo mode as you move the camera, while half pressing the shutter, you'll notice Mode 1 shows movement while Mode 2 does not.

I don't have the camera in front of me, so I don't remember how to get to the demo mode.

Hope this helps!

Steve
