New Canon G3

Can anyone tell me if there will be a replacement
for the Canon Powershot G2 any time soon? Since the
G2 has been out for a while I don't want to buy now
if a better version of the G2 is due out any time soon.
Any help will be appreciated.

Not being a close Canon follower or anything, but given Canon just announced the G2 respin (the black G2), I doubt you will see a new G2 replacement in the next few months (possibly late summer, early fall to try and catch the Christmas buying season -- though I imagine the so-called pro-sumer and SLR cameras are less affected by the Christmas buying season, than the 2 megabyte point and shoots). However from Phil's announcement page:

it doesn't look like much new, except a different color and bundling it with the IBM microdrive.

Greets Lar .... I promise you ... two weeks after you buy the "G3" .... they will have a G4 At least that is the way it works for me. If you wait ... think how many great shots you will have missed.

i dont think you will see a new g3 this year although in october is the time they make announcements , the other announcement times are in february

I gotta believe we'll see a "G3" in the next 3-4 months. There's a pretty big hole in the product line between the G2 and the D60. Also, the G2 is "out spec'd" by all the 5 mega pixel prosumer cameras.

BUt wait, if the G3 is coming out doesn't that mean that the G4 will be coming out right after that and then the G5?

My point is as others have stated, no matter what camera you find that you like, buy it, use it, enjoy it. They are all just tools that enable you to take photographs.

So many times we as consumers get all caught up in the hype of having the latest and greatest when in reality it doesn't matter. I know I know, the 5 mega pixel vs 4 mega pixel etc. Well, each year will bring a new crop of cameras. I guess we should plan on buying a new camera each year then.

THE G2 IS A GREAT CAMERA. Buy one and use it every day!!!! You won't believe the fun you'll have.

If you don't currently have a camera, the purchase the G2. If the G2 is only marginally better than your current cnamera (as in my case), then wait for the G3.

We keep hearing the same "when is the G3 coming?". People have been asking this question for moths already (before Christmas, eventhough the G2 came out in september). People also keep saying the G2 is outdated and "out spec'ed" by the new crop of camera. However, the sales have been doing quite well and this is still the camera whose test is looked at the most in DPR... Personnaly i'm happy with it, and if the reasonnable people have to be believed, the product cycle for Canon is around 1 year in the Prosumer (time between G1 and G2). So i wouldn't wait anything before fall (in store, announcement in late summer probably).

This is not even sure as another of their camera (Pro90) is still waiting its update. So will we see a G3? maybe... when? not before fall at least, if not more. The G2 is doing pretty well and they are not going to undercut themselves with a new product. Until the other manufacturers actually have a true killer, canon could wait.
