Lightroom Import Problem

I recently downloaded the trial version of Lightroom. There seem to be a number of reasons to like the program, but I have run into an issue that I cannot just shrug off.

When I imported a folder of my existing raw images (NEF, in my case), Lightroom did not import all of the photos. Out of 100 photos about 10% failed to import and I was given a message that they were either damaged or corrupted. This isn't the case, as other photo viewers (including Adobe's own Bridge) that I have at my disposal read these files fine.

Any ideas what might be causing this? I would consider using Lightroom to manage my digital files, but won't do so if files go missing.

I apologize in advance if this question has been addressed previously. I did several searches. I noted some issues with Vista and Leopard, but I am running XP.

Thanks.

I would first check that you have downloaded the latest version of Lightroom, Version 1.3. There may have been some issues with older versions of the program.

Second, are your images on an external drive (e.g. via USB cable)? I have heard of some issues when using a particular brands of external USB hard drives. Try copying the "problem" images to your main drive and see if the problem persists.

Are you sure that the RAW files have not been edited by some other program? LR may not like RAW files which are edited (e.g. by Capture NX).

Hope this helps!

I just downloaded Lightroom this weekend, so I would hope it is the latest version. I will double check the version number.

No USB or other external drive is involved.

I do use Capture NX currently, so your third suggestion is the most promising. I would have thought more files would have been affected, but I will check this out.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

My NEF's are a mixture of D70 and D80 files. Perhaps, the problem is broader than just the D100. I will download the update once it is available and see if that helps.

Thanks for your response.
