Blonde Model Retouching

Can you explain your workflow? The eyes and face are fantastic along with the rest. Man you are clean. Fantastic!
Thanks, Fred

Thanks, Fred. You're much too kind.
Here's a rundown of my workflow for this pic.

-- Healing brush on duplicate layer to fix blemishes.

-- Liquify tool on same layer to reshape lips and hide "the tooth" Probably should have used a separate layer, but I didn't.
-- Clone tool on a separate blank layer to touch up lip closure line.

-- Vikki Hansen's method of skin smoothing on a stamp visible layer. I don't have a reference for this method. You can probably google it, or maybe someone on the forum will post the reference. Smoothed the lips as well as the skin.
-- Painted white on a separate blank layer to provide lip "shine."
-- Chip Springer's PWL using black and white brushes.
-- Paint on separate blank layer to enlarge pupils and add catchlights.
-- Masked levels layer to brighten/shade the irises.
-- Masked hue/sat layer to desaturate and brighten the sclera.

-- Painted black and g-blurred a separate blank layer to shade the upper half or so of the sclera. The Idea of shading is from a Peano tip some months back.
-- Curves layer set to luminosity blend to reduce overall contrast a bit.
-- USM sharpen (50, 50, 0) on a stamp visible layer, and backed off on opacity.

As you can see, Fred, I got there by "standing on the shoulders" of some of our "giants."

Best,
-- Marty

I remember when you did that first post of mine of my wife. It was like this, very clean and real.

I make copies of directions like you gave and write notes on them for when i get good enpogh to stand on some shoulders myself.

Once in awhile i get lucky but the real skills will take more than a couples months of practice. I'm in it for the long haul and my goals are to get where I am now like 6 months from now so I'm happy with progression but it still leaves me dumbfounded when someone gives me simple instructions. Thats why I make a copy and some notes and try when I can understand the language.

Hope this makes sense and Thanks alot! , Fred

Cropped and sharpened the eyes then ran of 1click's portrait actions (Milkshake).

BW conversion with a slight warm tone.

Personally I found the background to be distracting, the hard contrast between the tree

and the green yellow flowers took my eye away from her so I removed the dark part.

Whenever you are shooting try to keep an eye on what I call the stiff neck and chin tuck.

In my adjustment I actually moved the part of her neck just under her chin in about a half
and inch and it does wonders.

There is also something called "turtlenecking" ole school way of telling the model to push her chin

out in the direction it is facing, very small movement but you wouldn't believe what it does.

The first image is just a small crop for an 8x10.

The link below is to the original uncropped version in case
you would like to have it.
