It's a pretty small statistical sample so far but the people with all numbers in the serial number are experiencing the cracks.

The posted serial numbers starting with 1A..... or 1C...... have reported no cracks.

Not true at all. There are reports on the other thread of 1A... and 1B... with cracks, AND reports of SNs with only numbers without cracks.

You are correct... very small sample - it is not possible to infer a valid statistical result.

I have a 1C serial number. No crack yet, but I can see an almost imperceptible discoloration along the line where other people are getting cracks. Probably a "fault line" just waiting for its time to come.

I dont have a crack and it was made in Japan. Since the SN seem to vary... what about where its made... maybe the molding for the case is different.

does anyone have a serial number starting with 4? I just got mine yesterday.
mine says made in japan. the box has a number
7099A001

but the bottom of the camera has the number (and this is the one I put into the canon site to check the firmware)
4324301126
it also says canon pc1015

anyone with these numbers have a crack? I only have the camera one day.

I don't see any cracks but from what I understand they take time to develop. thanks

Yup. 4224XXXX. Three weeks old and I have a crack. I'm returning mine.
