does anyone have experience with ridata memory cards. would you recommend them? they are cheaper than the known companies but does that mean they are less reliable?

If they work OK, during the first month or so... it'll probably work reliably for years...

My opinion is where these lesser known companies fail is in quality control. The tend to have higher rates of failures out of the package and/or failures early in the life of the product. If your willing to take some chance that you may have to return a card for a replacement, and/or don't mind doing that on the chance you get a bad one... then they can be a good value. These types of products are 'solid state' and really have very low rates of failures once they are found to be in good working order.

Say 1 out of a 1000 might not work out of the box... where Sandisk's failure rate out of the box might be 1 in 100,000... I'm just guessing at these numbers...

I own Ridata, PQI, Sandisk, Transcend, and ATP cards... I've only had one failure of a flash memory card, it was a PQI card and it did not work out of the package... I sent it back to the retailer for a replacement and the replacement has worked fine for 3 years now.

That's quite a guess. Sandisk does not deserve the pedestal it sits on. I'd love to see any statistic that states that their cards are ever 2x more reliable. 1 Failure in 100,000 is UNHEARD of in electronics manufacturing. Try 50 failures in 1000 of 80 Failures in a Thousand.

I have not had any brand of CF fail on me yet after about 20K exposures on various brands of cards and cameras.

I have 2 of the ridata cards you were linked to and I have had them a couple years......I bought mine at Newegg but I have purchased things from meritline without problems.

The only 2 cards I ever had fail were a Sandisk and a Lexar........so much for the big names.

Just trying to learn and it's slow going!

I have been using Ridata cards since my 500MB card days (a while ago). They have always worked fine for me. I currently have three of them in the 2GB size and three in 1GB. Those 500MB cards are around here somewhere, but they don't get used very often anymore.

I get my cards here......

I have a few of the Ridata Supreme 150x cards and they have performed as well as Sandisk Ultra II cards in terms of speed.

For what it's worth, I have ordered from a couple of the above-mentioned places and received the green "supreme" cards even though the photo showed the grey "pro" label.

The grey label is older and has been replaced by the newer green "supreme."

If anybody is looking for a 2GB SD card I have an extra (sealed). I bought too many as backup for a long trip I took recently.

I have 10 of the 2 gb cards. 6-older brown 80x and 4-newer grey 150 x. I had many 512s and never had a problem. Those are mostly gone now to my kids or when I sell a camera. No problems in many years. Last time I got Transcend 4 gb cards as everyone was out of stock on Ridatas. My Digital Discount informed me there was a recall on some of their cards. They quit selling them until the problem was resolved. I suggest buying from a high volume retailer like MDD. They sell enough, stand behind their products and see what batches of which cards are coming back. They even cross shipped to me once 4 Ridata cards because one Transcend was acting up and I did not trust it They took all 4 Transcends back and sent me 4 Ridatas. This was many years ago and it has stayed in my mind when I need bigger cards. Call them when you order. I have heard others on the forum complain about internet orders. Not affiliated with them in any way.
I have had an older micro drive whiz out and an older Sandisk completely fail.
