Hi There All. just a quick message to say sorry for being an Ass on the forum over the past few weeks.

I have been in the sad situation of having to put our 16 year old dog to sleep, my Wife and I have been watching him deteriorate for quite some time, in an effort to save him from his fate we both worked togeter to nurse him, this involved getting up in the middle of the night to let him do his business and then sometimes walk around for hours, the little guy had Dog Alzheimers.

We got him when he was 5 weeks old, it has been so hard to decide when to get him put to sleep, he was still looking for his daily walk, meals and a hug, we finaly made the appointment last Saturday, one of the hardest things I have ever done, he was like a Son.

Thankfully we did what we had to do, now we are happy we did it before he suffered any pain, I know there are people in the world that would say heck its just a dog, to us he was a lot more than that he was a faithful, friend.

Please accept my apology for being a snappy person re DSLR cameras, I can only say I was under a lot of stress mostly due to lack of sleep, I had no right to take it out on others, most folks on this forum know that I am not usualy like that, I had no right to say what I did and frankly I dont care what cameras people use, just hope they enjoy their choice, Sheltie was right when he said this forum has always been bigger that that.

Just a couple of pics from Brisbane Botanical Gardens, these were taken last week with my Z710.

Sorry to about your lost. Well, 16 years is not a short time. Although I never had a dog before, but I can fully understand your feeling.

I think you and your better half had make the correct decision of not letting him to suffer.

Take care. BTW a very nice Lotus.

Dave,

My wife and I are "cat people" though we like dogs, of course. We have six bengal cats

now. We lost two previous cats to CRF (chronic renal failure). I was holding Cinnamon when he took his last breathe when we put him to sleep. We were all crying (myself, my wife and The Vet). Pets are like family. It is part of life...but it is still tough. I feel for you and your wife. 16 yrs is pretty long for a dog's life span. You were lucky to have him that long to enjoy. You did the right thing!

I grew up with dogs being part of the family all my pre-adult life. German shepherds always for some reason. When I was just a todd, I was choking on something back in the room where I was in bed, our dog shadow (German shepherd) ran out to my mother and kept barking at her and running back to the room where I was, that according to my mom saved my life. I could tell lots of stories of how smart dogs are, and devoted to the family. And we had to put her to sleep, had two more after that and same story, but the last one my mom did not tell me until she did it, and I was very mad and sad. Dogs are very interactive with the family like they belong and they do, it is very hard to understand if you have never lived with a dog as part of the family.

Thanks for posting the pics and great photo work, and time heals all, as you know.

Even though we've spoken privately, I want to publicly express my sympathy to you and Trish on the loss of your beloved pet. As others have said, you did the hard thing... the right thing. Please consider returning to this forum on a permanent basis.

BTW... your images are stunning. Great color and composition.

Hi James yes Mate I will remain on the foum, just need to stay away from the camera debates, I will stick to posting pics, commenting on others pics and maybe trying to help newbys with Kodak problems, hard to wipe off 4.5 yrs on a forum.

PS. I decided to pass the Feb wedding onto another photographer, returned the Pentax 35mm to the store where I work part time, just not realy interested these days.

Dave, I am very sorry to read of your loss of your "Mexican Terror".....

I can relate because we lost Mindy a few months ago also. She died at home here one night, and she was only 8 years old. That was REALLY hard, when we found her that morning, laying in my wife's computer room. She was diagnosed with a cancer tumor on her liver earlier this year....and about 3 months later she was gone. (I believe that the tumor ruptured...) I know that our dogs become a real part of our family's.

So now we have a new Sheltie pup. She's 4 months old now. For us, the house was just too empty without Mindy around. (We have no kids.) So we start over. This pup is no Mindy, and it is kind of hard starting all over again with training and such. But it is worth it to have another new family member. And she seems to be a quick learner. (Just wish the teething would stop already. LOL)

All the best to you and your wife!

David Davies - So sad Dave to read of the Mexican Terror being put to sleep. Was in one of the first posts that I read when I joined the forum, so remember with fondness.

So very sorry to hear about your dog. Having a dog put to sleep is a very hard decision to make. I've had dogs all my life, have always considered them part of the family, and have had to make that decision myself a few times.

You already know you've made the right decision and as another person has already said, time heals.

Bless you for taking care of you pet's needs, including that final decision.

Jo

Thank you all for understanding what its like to loose a loved pet, I am sure anyone that likes animals feels the same as we do.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I know how attached people can be to their pets, especially one that you've had for a very long time. It can be very sad.

Even though we all have different likes and dislikes, I actually liked to hear your opinion about DSLR's. It was kind of fascinating to me, that a long-time photographer like you, would not use them any more (that is the SLR cameras). I understand that, from the standpoint of wanting to use something that is compact and easy to use. By nature, I'm always pushing the limits within my financial resources...so a lot of it is just my personality also...to try other things. Each of us are different.

Speaking of being different, for fun the past few days, I used my DSLR for long shots, and then my P&S cameras for wide angle pictures. I had a great time with three cameras. Now for some, that might be kind of silly to use three at the same time...but I'm all for having fun. :)

And great to see pictures from you also...they look very nice. :)

My own family wonder why after having darkrooms, medium format cameras and SLRs why I dont have something better, I can assure you that it is simply a matter of compactness for me, I know that DSLRs are more capable than prosumers but as 90% of my photography is done in good lighting conditions I find the Kodaks do the job.

Certainly not silly, it can be a lot of fun trying various cameras in a multitude of situations, as you say you are having fun, that is what photography is all about.

Thank You.

So sorry for your loss. We recently put down one of our German Shepherds...such a great loss for the family! Dealing with loved ones who are sick can put us under a lot of stress and pressure when trying to do the right thing.

BTW, great pics.

So sorry to hear of your loss of the MT, Dave. We went through a similar ordeal three years ago with a darling little dachshund named Brandy. We said that would be our last dog because we never wanted to go through that heartache again. Well, a few months later we got introduced to a little mongrel foundling at from a shelter, and she won our hearts over. Tasha, or third dog, has a personallity all her own, and I know having her is worth the risk of future pain. Life is like that! All best wishes.
