I am hoping to get by with my existing Hanimex Pro 550 flash until I have the money for a new unit, perhaps SB-28(?). What do I need to make this flash work with the Nikon Coolpix 950? Also, what do I need to be able to use it later as a secondary flash, if that's workable?

There is an adapter cord about 8 inches long that adapts the 950 to a hot shoe block that has a screw thread under it. I think several manufacturers make a hot shoe to flash socket adapter and that is the combination you need. The Nikon cord is a AS-E900 and cost under $30. Nikon makes the other adapter but I don't have its model name.

John, I would suggest that you visit the Nikon teck site (www.nikontechusa.com) and review the forum on external flash units before attempting to use your present flash. There have been reports of non-Nikon external flash units damaging the CP-950. A lot of discussion at that site about flashes. Good luck.

The Nikontech site has a list of approved flashes, but you can probably narrow your field to the SB28 and SB22S depending upon your requirements and budget.
