Thanks to you both.

Curious, if it was Made in China instead, would that have been an issue for you?

I have no idea what your agenda is, but I really don't see why this matters.

If you have a grudge against China and want to avoid things made in China good luck. While finished products are labeled where made, components generally are not, and I would be it is near if not impossible to find anything electronic today that does not have components made in China.

Ummm, why post in every forum? Gee, maybe so I can gather data on each brand? And, I only posted in 3 plus open, which was ignored mostly. And, yeah, I got a problem with China. You got a problem with that? Turns out the Canon, at least the 40D, is made in Japan, which is a good thing IMHO.

We live in a Global world, the markets seek their own level. It is all about competition, supply & demand. If China is the source and their quality conforms, I have no problem. Read "The World is Flat".

Haven't read much of anything by Thom Friedman that made much sense to me.

There's been a lot of cr_p coming out of China, both product wise and more lately. Personally, I'd like to not have to buy anything made there. But that's just me. If slave labor and total censorship and poison toothpase and lead paint on kids toys is OK with you, be my guest. Just becasue it's a global economy doesnt mean I must deal with the devil. Just one man's opinion, I'm entitled.

Please throw away the battery and charger. They are made in China.

Almost everything electronic made today has parts from China. In fact many things mechanical has parts from China. You may not like stuff from China, but chances are your house or apartment is full of stuff made in China. Just because an item says made in XXX, does not mean it is made from parts are made in China.

In Canada you can buy seafood labeled "Product of Canada", all that means is that the seafood was boxed in Canada. The seafood arrived in Canada in big frozen blocks.

While I actually agree the movement to send so much production to China was not great. Consumers from all western nations have fueled this trend. Maybe 10-15 years ago something could have been done to stop this trend, but today it is pretty much a done deal.

I personally see nothing different than buying a product assembled in Japan or Thailand from many parts made in China, than a product that is assembled in China.

Are you kidding me? Would you buy a chinese car if there's such thing?

Don't give a lecture about globalization which is nothing more than greedy companies seeking dirt cheap labors in the third world.

IMHO ^^

Right on !
People are way too concerned with being "politically correct".

The fact of the matter is that China's standards are lower than many developed nations. Environmental standards, employment standards, product quality control standards etc...

Each year China's manufacturing skills improve, just like manufacturing skills improved in the US, Japan, Western Europe,Korea, and Taiwan did in generations past.

But, that doesn't change the fact that a product made in China today is typically of inferior materials, quality, craftsmanship than that made in the US, Japan,Western Europe, Korea, Taiwan.

Of course, the populations of the more developed Nations have laid down and let China take over the majority of the worlds manufacturing, so
product quality comparisons are becoming irrelevant.

As for Canon's DSLR's, as far as I know all models from the 10D and up are made in
Japan.
