Which one is better? I've heard about DV pro cameras, but never about pro 8 cams, does it mean that DV is better? But what about fact that 8mm is long, 120 mins, while DV is only 80?

And one more question about BetaCAM, if there is a Digital BetaCAM, does it mean that BetaCAM SP is analog, or Digital is just better version of SP?

Which one is better?
MiniDV is smaller. Not much difference in terms of quality.

Digital 8 is a in-betweener solution. You can play regular tapes, from your previous video camera, but get the benefits of digital storage for new video.
But what about fact that 8mm is long, 120 mins, while DV is only 80?
My Digital 8 Sony takes 2 hour tapes, but, in saving digitally, only gets 1 hour per tape.

Not exactly true. Sony makes both Digital 8 and MiniDV. Digital 8 is their in betweener solution. So Digital 8 is a format they made, but it is not their standard. Unlike Memory Sticks which is since, as far as I know, they make no CF or SmartMedia devices at all.

You mean the same resolution and compression ratio?

U, I see it is like digital BetaCAM recorders can read old analog Beta tapes, so you don't have to have separate player to read 'em, and you could do everithing with new digital tapes.

Wait, you mean that 120 is for analog, for digital data, tape speed is 2x faster, so you get only 60 minz? Thats suxxx :(
Anyway, I'm going to buy MiniDV cam, thanx for the info.

And what about DVCAM tapes? Are they better? I've heard that they have more resolution and less compression. Of cource it is worse than BetaCAM, but it is kind of PRO solution.

And does it (MiniDV) have SMPTE code? I've heard that it is used only in digital formats.
BTW, does anybody know, what resolution of DVCAM tape?

Not exactly true. Sony makes both Digital 8 and MiniDV. Digital 8
It happends often when somebody is making products developed by another company. For example there are about 10 СF manufacturers.
