Has anyone ever used a beauty dish to light a product? Any
interesting effects?
Product shots vary a great deal more than people do, so it would really help to know what kind of product are talking about.

Packet of cornflakes? Car tyre? Pillow? Food mixer?

I am sure a beauty dish will work as an effective source for "some" product or another, at least, when handled appropriately by someone who knows what they're doing. But the same thing could be said of every lightsource. Similarly, all the different kinds of lighting modifiers are all equally UN-suitable for the subjects that they are.... UNSUITABLE for!!

Please note... (because it's really quite important, and not just in photography) ...

It is not what you use..... but how you use it.

I agree. Thats why I left it an open ended question. I think I will rent one and test it out on some products and see what happens.

Is it done yet?

Sure I've used them.

Works OK, given the right product, in this case, a porcelain doll...

In truth, I often find it a useful light modifier for close work with small products, where a softbox will sometimes give too much diffusion.
