I'm looking at getting my first tablet and don't want to spend alot of $$. Anyone have experience with the Graphire 4 4x5 tablet?

Graphire 4 is an excellent tablet. You should have no regrets buying one. I have had one for quite some time and has worked flawlessly. The 4X5 size is no problem. It took a very short time to get used to and has improved my speed and accuracy in retouching

I have two of them and they work jut fine for me. I am not using PS as a professional so it may not have enough resolution for them but I have had no problems at all doing what I need to do. I carry one around with my laptop to it there. And, the price is right for me.

The wacom bamboo is replacing the graphire. Although, the advertising states it is primarily for handwriting,r some reviewers state is ti fine for photoshop. Guess I will find out ,as I ordered one for $99. It comes bundled with Elements 5 for PC and 4 for

and Painter essentials 3.0 and nik pro 2.0. If I don't feel it is adequate ,I 'Ill sell it and get an intuois.

The Bamboo sounds great with all the bundled software. I just ordered{2 hours ago} a refurbed Graphire 4 directly from the Wacom site. Its supposed to come with everything it would have come with if it were new and was $79.99. I hope I don't regret it.

I have a Graphire 4, and it works fine for my purposes. I do mainly retouching, not a lot of "painting". Occasionally (maybe 1:100 PS sessions), I find photoshop stops responding to the pressure sensor, but restarting PS makes it work again. In terms of specs, it seems the Bamboo is very similar. As far as the size, I find it more than adequate for most work.

I've been using the Wacom tablets for several years now, starting with the 3 series and now the 4. Generally they've worked great...better than a mouse for graphics work and have saved my wrists big-time!

I've had two issues with them. The easy one is that sometimes the Tablet Service will stop working after I plug in a different USB device (like a camera). But restarting the service quickly cures that.

The other is more problematic and has been the case with all three tablets I've used. It seems that when the pen heats up, either from warm weather or perhaps from warm weather+my hands, the point sticks. When this happens, it scrolls my screen or expands whatever tool I'm using and only moving the pen away from the tablet altogether gives me back control. Half the time I end up having to use my mouse (still have one plugged in) instead of the pen for a while.

I spoke with Wacom about this a couple of times and they say it's a known annoyance.
