eBay or Dell

Hi, new here. I've been using a 300D for a few years, and now make enough to afford the 5D 24-105 kit. I found Dell to be the cheapest at 2990 and will sell me the 430ex fro 249.00. However there's a couple of eBayers selling them that have 99% feedback or better. I'm tempted as I could probably get one for 500+ less. Is it worth the risk? I'm leaning towards "no" since gray market stuff is so rampant in eBay.

Thoughts?

... that to have a valid warranty, you need to purchase a new product from an authorized Canon dealer. Otherwise, no warranty!

And make sure that 99% good feedback is with hundreds or thousands of transactions.

I don't believe in fate, but I do believe in f/8!
If science proved that plants have feelings, would all of the vegans die out?

Hey Unixcat, I am also looking to get a 5d and I was considering ebay as well, but I have decided to go ahead and wait for the rebate (if it ever comes) and I don't think you can get a rebate with ebay purchases (though I might be wrong).

I guess I have just decided to try and take my chances with the rebate rather than take my chances with ebay. Good luck with your decision!

regards,
jackie

Great point. I do not know the cost for standard service on a 5D but if it is close to the $350 for service on a 1D a non-warranty service purchase better be at least $400 less than a sale with a warranty, IMO.

Well that settles it. I trust ebay for some stuff, but there has been way too much fraud lately with high-end cameras. Poyorick, I had no idea there was an upcoming rebate? Any links as to when tey might announce it? I really want it by next weekend, so I may just get my 5D from dell today.

Here's a link:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A1145368

If you call them you can talk them down on a Speedlight by $50. Not bad considering the lens retails for $1200.

Good luck to you too Poyorick. Let me know if find a better deal. I personally can't wait to get into some L glass! Funny, I was looking at my pictures today from my 300D, and they look really good to me. I can't imaging what they'r egoing to look like from this new rig!

Ciao

If you buy from Dell, don't forget to purchase thru a link at Fatwallet.com. You will get a 3% rebate if you sign up at Fatwallet.

It can take 45 days or more for the rebate to be available but it is worth the wait :)
