What are people expecting from this PMA 2008?

Just curious to get some feedback as to what people think will be introduced at this PMA 2008. I am hoping that there will be a new crop of P&S cameras that follow the general SLR trend that seems to favor higher ISO and not the standard run of increasing megapixal count. I thought I read in DPReview that Canon or someone else was coming out with a whole new crop of smaller P&S CMOS sensors that had high ISO. Here's to hoping nobody introduces a 12MPixal P&S camera that they claim goes up to ISO3200 but really looks bad at anything over ISO 400.

Just my 2 cents.

Ha, just kidding. Actually I'm sure the 5D will have a replacement. The 400D as well. I don't expect anything too exciting in point & shoots. More pixels, more zoom, more noise.

There are a lot of new cameras that have just been introduced that you can see and touch at a PMA. It doesn't have to be introduced at the event to be interesting. And of course all of the peripherals like printers, lenses, projectors, software.

Wish Casio's prototype becoming mass-production with these additional must-have:

1. 2.5inch rotatable LCD

2. optional vertical grip with secondary SDHC slot, and SDHC slots switch by a physical button (rather than the deep-in-menu button)
3. optical stablization a MUST HAVE (prefer lens-shifting type, CCD's alrite)
4. manual focus functions enable while video filming (like Panasonic FZ50)

and hope they add these options:

1. bluetooth cell-phone-connection (treat cell phone as LCD display not slower than 20fps)

2. USB direct host feature: in case ran out of SDHC card, can attach any USB storage device and use as direct data transfer
3. the same Extra-zoom functions shown on Panasonic FZ50
4. real-time iris / brightness control (like Canon S5 IS)
5. optional 802.11G/N data tranimitor to dedicated wifi hard drive

and price with these optional shouldn't cost more than USD $699

that's the super casio i've been waiting for....

All the new cameras will have copious amounts of more.

More megapixels, more memory, more colors, more lenses. more everything.

New Drebel.
New D80 replacement.
5D replacement. ('7D).
3D (At last.)

Cheaper FF cam from Nikon. Maybe 'D300x'.
Perhaps even D3x.

Sony 'flagship' and maybe something else.

New Sigma lenses.
New Canon lenses.

Perhaps a new lower end camera segment. Canon 1000D. (Or Nikon 'D1k'?) Lol.
Anyway, both with in-cam IS.

If we do it right the first time around, how will we sell the upgrade?! ;)
Keep photography wild.

12 and 14MP P&S cams have prob been made already.
I hope that the Canons, Nikons, Sigmas and Tamrons make better glass
offerings for once that are more usable and more affordable. It's time to
stop the camera BS upgrade thing. Make something worthwhile to
buy and to keep for at least a couple years manufacturers.
My 2 cents.

Well, it's not like the cameras stop working after the next iteration of models. I'm sure whatever you buy today will still work perfectly fine in two years.

I can make a camera work, but you need to look at all
the whiners and complainers on these forums that don't learn
their cams and then upgrade for "something better'.

things that would increase the number of keepers I get.

My 1d2 has a burst rate and buffer depth that is ok, even if newer bodies are better. And the 400/5.6 is about the right size and weight for BIF, and my Sigma 150 macro, even with a 1.4 TC, really does a great job on macros (or I can put some extension tubes on the 400). The Canon 70-200/2.8 handles lots of shorter stuff like indoor sports. A 50mm prime and a short zoom are fine for few semi WA shots I take. And my xti on a Sigmonster really lets me reach out and touch things.

What would really increase the number of keepers I get is better hi ISO performance. I have seen ISO 6400 shots from the 1d3, and while they are quite impressive they dont have the IQ I get at say 500 with my 1d2.

I know there have been improvements in hi ISO noise levels, and things continue to improve.

But if I could shoot at a clean 6400 things like bigger, heavier, more expensive faster lens (think stuff like a 200/1.8 or 400/2.8) would be unnecessary. Same for all the IS solutions that cost more, add weight and complexity, and at times seem to degrade IQ.

Give me great IQ at very high ISO and I would be a happy camper.

I have some interest in seeing what the new Oly will be like. But that seems to be the limits of my interest in 'stuff' right now. (And even then, if they manage to fail to meet their self imposed deadline yet again, I'll have a hard time working up a decent outrage)

I'm not sure why, but I go through phases like this, I tend to shoot more at those times. I shoot less during times of technological turmoil and change.

But then the cruel joke they have put Oly users through ends, then what. You all will be like the Coyote catching the Road Runner, then what. Sometimes I wonder if a key pillar that keeps the Oly universe going is the mystery of the E3 itself and endless debates about it. It will be like a "bigfoot" hunter finding bigfoot and it becoming a known accepted fact, then what, what does that person do next week?
