I ordered a the DC58 adapter from Tristate Camera. They asked me to call them after I placed the order. They did. The sales rep talked me into another adapter with a 52mm thread and with a Phoenix 2x teleconverter. He said Phoenix doesn't have the best reputation for quality but their internal tests showed this particular teleconverter works exceptionally well with the G2. And they have a 30-day return policy. What do you guys think? Did I screw up here?--Mike

I have had good experience with them. On the other hand these lens just arrived on the seen and their quality is an unknown. If you could have both in your hand you could make an informed decision. If you want to be the brave one to try it out, they will probably make good on the return, but you must be diligent on testing and getting the RMA and returning if you want to go that path.

i've been to their actual store here in manattan and bought a couple p&s cameras solely on the advice of one of the guys behind the counter .... each time i've gotten a very good recommendation and the model's they suggested get good reviews online etc etc, but my friends who the cameras were for are all very happy with them. and their prices are pretty copmetitive with b&h and the other big names, so i've had good experience with them

i would trust that guy's opinion for now and see how much you like that tele converter... and if you dont like it, then what morris said should be true.... as long as both sides does their part right, everyone should be happy...

sorry i dont know anything about the teleconvereter myself i'll leave that to the next guy

Can't really comment specifically on Tristate, but in general, this is typical of mail order and NYC camera stores. They'll attempt to talk you into something other than what you want, or into getting additional accessories. Bottom line -- do the research on your own and know exactly what you want. If they suggest something else, check it out for yourself and call back after you decide. Maybe Tristate is right, maybe not. There are enough bad stores out there that it's better to investigate everything for yourself rather than take someone's word for it. Good luck. Post another message and let us all know how it turns out.

You can find reviews and ratings of Tristate and others at:

http://www.resellerratings.com . Tristate is listed as "Tristate Computers." I'd be willing to place a bet that the stores have their own people go online and give good reviews, but there are enough comments there to give you a picture of what to expect.

I bought a Fuji MX-2900 from them a few years ago. Service was great, didn't get pushed into any extra accessories, overall I'd deal with them again. Certainly no regencycamera.com :)

Okay, one final comment. I just remembered a friend who ordered a lens from them. They told him it was in stock. After some time passed and he didn't receive the lens, he called back to ask about his order, and was told it was out of stock. Then, he called back again and pretended to be a new customer wanting to order the same lens. He was told the lens was in stock. At that point, he confronted them about it and they were flustered, saying it was a mistake. There is more to the story, but he ended up canceling the order after much aggravation.

In looking at the comments in resellerratings.com, it appears as though they're still up to the same practice: Always tell them it is in stock, or convince them to buy something else instead. In other words, make a sale at any expense.
