Olympus is more than the E510 and soon to be E3. Their medical technology as per this photo has taken upper and lower gastroenterology into the 21st century. The procedure is done with a capsule endoscope that you swallow. Images are taken of the esophagus, digestive tract and colon. Once a very uncomfortable procedure but (no pun intended) for the the genius of Olympus is like accidently swallowing a peanut. The images are then downloade to a computer and analized. You can see the steam of blood in the lower right image, which was repaired with another Olympus product. I'm confident that Olympus has the ability to be in the same league with the two big guy's. I'm looking foward to the E3. It just may be competive with the D300 and 40D.

Yes... they were joking. The technology is pretty groundbreaking stuff and sure beats them having to shove a manually operated camera into your mouth or buttocks in order to view such details.

... and its waterproof too, just wash it off when it comes out and pop it into the mouth of the next patient! --

It comes out naturally, and it is NOT REUSED !

It should be requested by all patients for this procedure, it sounds 100% better than the one used a few years ago, I know I will...

Same here! And the doctor involved actually told me that by the next time it would be wise to have the procedure , such a capsule should be available. Much better than the old Pentax equipment they used this time, which was a major pain....

I have spent many hours in investigating microscopes, and in the upper end Olympus leaves Nikon and Leica in the dust. Olympus has higher resolution, better contrast and better geometric correction than Nikon/Leica. But Zeiss is even better. I think this is also correct for photography. I believe that the resolution and correction in Oly lenses is probably among the best out there (when it comes to zooms).

For Scientific imaging, we generally accept noise but we need the details and precision.

I agree. If this method were used the first time I would have saved $7000. Unfortuately the insurance companies pay for the medieval procedure first and if the problem develops again then the high tech method is used. I hope the E3 will offer an accessory so I can do it myself. "Challenge 69-Post your best surgical procedures".
