Hi all,

This seems like such a basic question, and I bet the answer is so easy I'll feel dumb when I hear it, but, here goes:

On a recent vacation I uploaded 1G of images off a CF, some shot in RAW, some as JPG. All were uploaded using the Canon uploading program and viewed with EX Browser software that came with my Rebel XT. They would automatically open in EX once the upload was complete.

Somehow, when I was viewing the images, I changed the program assocated with viewing RAW files and the next time I attempted to open the RAW file, the computer warned that there was no associated program for viewing the file. I elected what I thought was the appropriate program, Canon EX Browser. At least I thought I did that...

Before this issue, when I explored and drilled down to a specific folder of shots, all would show, JPG and RAW alike as thumbnails - the RAW ones having the word RAW in the upper corner.

Now, when I explore to a specific file of photos, the JPG images show as thumbnails, but I get the EX Browser icon for the RAW's. No thumbnail.

I suppose I can open Canon Raw to view and browse those RAW images, but I liked it so much better when I could just view the RAWs as thumbnails when I explored.

Any ideas on what I did, and how I can fix it?

TIA for your help -

Melissa

To change file associations

1. Right-click a file with the extension whose association you want to change, and then click Open With.

2. In the Open With dialog box, click the program where you want the file to open, or click Browse to locate the program that you want.

3. Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box.

Hi Melissa,

I suppose you have Windows XP, not Vista.
You speak about exploring photo files , but don't say how.

When you say there was a word "RAW" in the upper corner and now only EXbrowser icon , I suppose you use ZoomBrowser EX before and now to browse photo files. Are you ? Windows XP Explorer doesn't show thumbnails of RAW files by itself.

If you still see EXbrowser icon I suppose the file association is OK, even it is better to check it.

If this is OK, suppose to re-install Canon programs from media or update from web download. This should re-gain all the file assocations and more , which corrects problems, but involves also your another imaging software file associations , if any.

(Unfortunately I cannot check file associations on my computer, because I use Faststone to see RAW thumbnails in Windows Explorer.)

Please understand, that such remote support without having details is risky for you and me, so the decision is completely up to you.
Maybe you can also try Canon support for this...

Good luck
