These two images were taken with the Pentax DS + Pentax FA24-90mm near the Goblin Valley State Park in Utah. About 22 miles off Interstate 70 on Utah Highway 24 headed towards Hanksville. The EXIF is embedded in the images. Hope you like them.

that second one looks like strange new chess pieces!
very nice photos!
Hi Karen,

As I said in the OP, it is near Goblin Valey State Park. We have been trying to get there on a good day to do some shoots. We've tried three times before but the light was such as it wasn't worth entering the park. However, this time we did go in. After I process a few of the images I will show you a bunch of chess pieces. Amazing place.

Cheers.

Really beautiful shots Ron. That first one has a lot of depth to
it...almost 3D.
Hi RonJ,

Thank you.

Havn't seen you around here much lately.

Have you ever been to Goblin Valley? It is a fascinating place.

Cheers.

I can't help but think that there is more going on than just wind, rain and errosion to make these rock formations. They are amazing to me. On my list of places to go before I die that is for sure. Thanks for wetting my appetite Ron. These are beautiful images.

Nice shots. Did you make it to Arches National Park? I'm going there in two weeks and would like some suggestions of good locations for shots if you've been there.
Anyone else can chime in if they've been there.

I don't think you can really go wrong no matter where you go in the park. Just be sure to allow plenty of time for getting out of the car and wandering around.

All of the parks in Utah are pretty amazing. I still can't believe how different they are from one another despite being so close together.

You know I love the desert, and those are great desert shots. Before all the new stuff out nowdays' I used to hear a lot about the 24-90, almost always good, and this is no exception. How would you say the 24-90 and 16-45 compare within their similar range areas?

I can't compare them Rupert. I don't own the 16-45mm.

I bought the FA24-90mm upon the recommendation of forum members. It now lives on my Pentax *istDS.

Hi LaRee,

A good vacation photo trip would be to Moab, Utah. Use that as your base of operations. Go to Arches National Park, Dead Horse point, San Rafael Desert, and Goblin Valley. All of them are just a hop, skip, and a jump from Moab. You could certaintly fill many SD cards with some spectacular images. All of them are very safe to visit except for the San Rafael Desert. Do some research before you tackle the San Rafael Desert.

Cheers.

Thanks rondeann.

Arches has good roads (paved) into the park. Pick up a map at the entrance. You could spend weeks in there taking photos and wish you had more time. There is a place called Dead Horse Point (not a part of Arches) outside of Moab, Utah that is very well worth a visit also. It is easy to find. Ask for directions when you get there.

If you want to visit Goblin Valley it has very, very easy access (paved roads) and is worth a visit.

I tend to shy away from the Parks and Monuments myself. I like to go into the deserts and find locations that have had very few people visiting them because of the ruggedness.

Enjoy your trip.

Cheers.
