I have now got a new monitor after the old one, Samsung unexpectedly blown a circuit and died last week. Thanks John Chandler, I got a HP 20 inch widescreen monitor and it is great for editiong photos which look very nice in the widescreen. The only downside for me is the smaller size of fonts in the monitor's native resolution of 1680 X 1050 but the photos really look crisp and colourful.

I took my 4 year old daughter to Legoland last weekend. Although it is a children's theme park, there are plenty of scope for photography. The place is full of beautiful plants and shrubs and the best part is the 'Miniland' Here there are miniature models of various Europian countries, all painstakingly recreated with great attention to detail using lego bricks. Incredible sight!

All taken with C770, no PP, just resized for the net.

How do the pics look in your monitor? I hardly did calibration in mine apart from adjusting the contrast and brightness and the pictures look fine.

Truly amazing! The intricacy of "Belgium" and St Paul's Cathedral & Big Ben are mind-boggling. I wonder who figured out how to build these.

...with tiny lego blocks. Very interesting exhibit and very well
photographed. I guess your new monitor is fine...but I'm looking at
these pics on my laptop, but they all look just fine to me.
The attention to details is incredible and they are so realistic albeit tiny!

It was a lot of hard thinking before I went for this monitor which has a shiny coat called 'Brightview'. Supposed to eliminate the diffusion of ambient light on the monitor to give a clearer and more colourful viewing. I think it works.

just a little bit.

Your pictures looks very good at my monitor. But it did not look like the Legoland I know :)

Had to go and check at legoland.dk to locate the other Legolands in the world. Had forgot about the one in England.

I'm sure your daughter had a wonderful time.

very nice shots you got there at Legoland! Just your camera settings for saturation looked a little high to me, but I guess that´s a only a matter of personal preference.

And like Lena I was a bit confused, didn´t know there are more Legolands than the one I know (but never visited so far) in Denmark.

Oh, about the font size: I´ve just learned it last week, Sherwood Pete mentioned it on OpenTalk Forum: an easy way to change the font size up or down is Ctrl plus scrollwheel. I had posted it here on OTF, too, but you probably haven´t seen it:

1680 x 1050, wow, sounds good! I had to get a new one 2 months ago, too, but it´s only 1280 x 1024. Not an expensive one, about € 200. Seen it again in the shop last week, same price, but meanwhile the resolution has changed to 1440 x 1024, gues that´s what is called wide screen.

That those incredible pieces of architecture could be built with Leggos!!! Amazing and nicely photographed! Looks like you had a great time there.

And thanks for sharing!

It's nice getting a new monitor, too...good for you!

Lena,

You may have found out by now that Legoland is in Denmark, UK, Germany and USA. My daughter just loved it and didn't want to leave!

Yes, I do prefer saturated images and set the C770 to 3+ saturation!

Yes René, Logoland is in other places too and infact Germany has it in two locations - Deutschland and Berlin.

Thanks for the tip about changing the font size. I use Internet explorer and it didn't work in all web pages. I even tried view> font size> largest with no success. Then I realised you were referring to Firefox and it works fine in all web pages. What a relief!

These days monitors seem to be competitively priced. The conventional good quality 17 inch monitors with 1280 x 1024 res are available for as little as £99! I decided to go for the widescreen as it seems to be more convenient for picture editing and at £179, the price seemed good.

Thanks Lucy, we had a great time, seeing how happy our daughter was in Legoland.

I was mainly looking after my daughter while she was having a good time. I didn't think there would be much to photograph apart from shots for the family album, until we reached this Miniland zone. My wife knows me only too well and she immediately took over the childminding duties!

Yes, I had to, after my previous one just stopped working due to an exploded circuit. Suddenly I felt like being in a house arrest! How did we manage without Internet in those days??!!

That´s a good one, Baskar, lol! It´s like saying: "France has it in 2 locations - Frankreich (= German word for France) and Paris".

But you are right with the 2 locations; meanwhile I did a quick Google search and found that the German Legoland is in Günzburg/Bavaria (since 2002) and the newest one (since March 31st this year) in the Sony Center in Berlin, the first Legoland Indoor Park. There was an early one in Germany in Sierksdorf (1973-1976), but today this is Hansa-Park.

Sorry, Baskar, I reallly should have mentioned that I use Firefox! (Just couldn´t imagine someone is still using "Redmond Bill´s" IE when there is Firefox with these great Add-ons "NoScript" and "AdBlock Plus"! Plus many more, btw.)

LOL! I should've known! just passed on the information given in the legoland.com web page! It says the one Berlin is called Legoland Discovery centre but the rest of the info is in German, the other one being Legoland Deutschland. How do you work that out?

Indeed, Firefox is a great browser but I carried on with the IE. I have worked it out as to how to change the font size in IE as well but I will try Firefox more often.

Baskar,

The shots all look nice on my monitor. I'm using a 22 inch Westinghouse wide screen LCD at 1680 X 1050 resolution and found I had to squint to read any text. I'm using Windows XP and found I needed to change the Font Size to Large Fonts and the DPI setting to Large Size (120 DPI), 125% Normal Size DPI. That way it works across all programs for me.

Good luck with your new monitor.

Thank you Joe, widescreen is nice. I too use windows XP and changed the font size to large in Display properties and in IE through Tools> Internet options. Now it is so much better.

I don't understand 'DPI setting' though. DPI refers to print size usually isn't it? How is it relevant for browser and how do you change that?

Cheers
